PHA aims to work multiple muscle groups in the body by alternating between upper and lower body exercises. The idea behind PHA training is that by working the upper and lower body in sequence, your heart rate remains elevated throughout the workout, while simultaneously gaining the benefits of resistance training. PHA training usually involves a circuit-style workout that alternates between upper body exercises (such as push-ups or pull-ups) and lower body exercises (such as squats or lunges). The idea is that by working the upper body, the heart rate is elevated, and then by working the lower body the heart rate remains elevated while still allowing the upper body to recover. This method of training forces the blood to quickly circulate through the body, increasing caloric expenditure and is theorized to decrease body fat and increase lean muscle mass. PHA training is usually considered to be a high-intensity form of training and is performed using a combination of bodyweight exercises, resistance bands, and dumbbells. It can be done as a stand alone workout or as part of a larger workout program. It is important to note that, as with any exercise program, you should consult a doctor or a personal trainer before starting PHA training, especially if you have any blood pressure deviations (high/low blood pressure). Also, you should adjust the intensity and duration of the exercises according to your fitness level and goals. Giving blood is the most generous act of kindness that one human being can do for another. When you give blood, you save lives. You never know when you, or when someone you love may need it. Blood is used for accident victims, newborn babies and their mothers who need a transfusion, people undergoing surgery, patients receiving treatment for cancer and other diseases. Donating regularly can help ensure that our community is never short on blood. Can I donate blood? to be eligible to donate blood, a person must be at least 17 years of age, be in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds, have not donated in the past eight weeks, and is not currently taking antibiotics or insulin (only if of a "bovine" nature). Please note: Our 17-year-old donors must weigh at least 130 pounds. Call: 908.788.6405 to schedule an appointment.
