3 f e b r u a r y 2 0 2 6 Happy Valentine's Day! 5 -Julie Flunn Recently, I've experienced two major milestones. In December, my husband and I became grandparents for the first time, and in Janu- ary I turned 60! It's hard to wrap my head around either of those facts. I vividly remember the entire day of my son's birth as if it were yesterday, so thinking of him now as the dad in the delivery room just blows my mind. I know my daughter-in-law's mother feels the same way about her own baby having a baby. As our younger two adult children said when they first met their nephew, "This is the greatest thing that's ever happened!" He's a cutie, and now the challenge is keeping him healthy during this crazy flu-and-everything-else season. Speaking of which—how is your health right now? At this stage of my life, I feel I can best be described the way used books are some- times listed online: "Good condition, complete but shows distinct wear. Pages are fine, but the binding is falling apart or missing." I was sick for part of those two months, despite getting four different vaccines in the fall. I know I wasn't alone; I've heard plenty about how many people in Hunterdon County (and beyond) were sick dur- ing that time. My goal is to stay as healthy as possible for the rest of the year so I can see that little guy as much as possible. I hope you and your family stay healthy too. For my birthday, all I really wanted was to have all our kids together, including our new grandson, our daughter-in-law, and my other son's girlfriend, our "daughter-in-love." During one of the pockets of time when I was well enough to do things (!), the kids arranged a small family cel- ebration by renting out a local pottery studio, complete with a birthday meal, cake, pink sparkly decorations (they know me well), and pottery lessons. It was so much fun. I hadn't thrown a pot on a wheel since I was a teenager. It wasn't easy then, and it isn't easy now, but it was incred- ibly satisfying to create a (slightly wonky—but that's okay) ceramic pot, along with the beautiful trays we made. It was also a great break for the new parents: creating something from scratch that doesn't need to be fed or changed. And he was an angel the whole time... but I'm biased. For another birthday outing, we're planning a museum day-trip in the city, which unfortunately had to be postponed due to my aforementioned temporary afflictions. We had two museum passes reserved through our local library, which would have (and eventually, will) save us $30 per person. Do you know about this great resource? If not, check it out – it might be a fun idea for Valentine's Day. Or you could take a pottery or crafting class. Whatever you choose to do (or not do), I hope you have a happy and healthy one! from CarolBeder ' s DAYS TO KEEP IN MIND Sunday February 1 Black History Month Monday February 2 Groundhog Day Monday February 2 Candlemas Day Wednesday February 4 World Cancer Day Wednesday February 4 Rosa Parks Day Sunday February 8 National Boy Scout Day Sunday February 8 Super Bowl Sunday Monday February 9 Chocolate Day Thursday February 12 Lincoln's Birthday Thursday February 12 Darwin Day Saturday February 14 Valentine's Day ♥ Saturday February 14 National Donor Day Sunday February 15 Susan B.
