Though many use this time of the year to cash out their supply of cheat days, here are twelve tips on how to make your holidays habits healthier: • Opt out of the cookie baking and gingerbread decorating, and incorporate more food-alternative traditions into your home, such as ornament decorating or festive game nights! • Use this time spent with loved ones to engage in healthy fitness activities like snow sports or wintery hikes! • Instead of using store bought items, try home-made alternatives to substitute unhealthy ingredients! • With every festive drink, have a glass or two of water to balance out while staying hydrated! • Offer to shovel the driveway or walkway; it's a great exercise alternative! • Try out new holiday recipes that incorporate a lean meat or veggie-heavy focus. • Getting enough sleep can help to reduce stress, so try not to overbook your holiday events! • To avoid excess snacking, don't stand near the food tables during gatherings. • Before food shopping for your upcoming parties, try to avoid arriving at the store famished, so you can buy only what you need, not what you want! • Ensure you're getting enough sleep and vitamin C to boost your immune system during this vulnerable and cold month. • Take an after meal walk to aid with digestion. • The act of gift giving, such as a healthy recipe book or a gym membership, can be useful to influence friends and family to initiate healthier habits!
