"Monet and Venice" is the first exhibition to focus on Monet's luminous Venetian paintings - a radiant yet underexplored chapter in the artist's late career - since their debut in 1912. (Museum promo) For our first November event WF will travel to the Brooklyn Museum for New York's largest museum show dedicated to Monet in over 25 years! From then on we have certainly veered far and wide with a multitude of topics. But time and again, the life of one of the truly great ones comes to the fore and we'll be informed, edified, even enlightened by her story as told through a documentary. This time around is a little different - the honored Extraordinary Woman will "make an appearance" at the Women's Forum November 20th luncheon event and tell us her story ~ HERSELF!! Carol Simon Levin portrays Margaret Bourke-White, the fearless photographer from Bound Brook, NJ who braved Soviet authorities, Southern bigotry, Nazi bombs, torpedoes and sniper fire to take photographs of many of the most consequential events of the 20th century. C o n S i D e r a P r e n u P Proving you're never too old for love, a recent study shows the only age group currently experiencing an increase in the remarriage rate are those 65 and older. People in this age group often come into these relationships with previously accumulated assets and pre-existing family responsibilities which, if not addressed, can lead to financial issues for the newlyweds. That's where a prenuptial agreement could help. Prenups are legal documents that spell out the financial responsibilities and obligations of each partner. They don't represent a lack of trust in one another, nor do they indicate either partner lacks faith that the relationship will last. They simply clarify expectations and, at this stage in life, should be an essential part of your retirement plan. As couples retire, they are faced with adjusting to a fixed income. Wherever that income comes from – Social Security, pensions, investments plans, retirement funds – protecting those assets becomes a priority for seniors to ensure there are sufficient funds to meet their needs and, possibly, a little something left over to leave to children or grandchildren. People who remarry at this stage in life also now have a new spouse to consider. Finding the balance between meeting existing responsibilities and future ones is tricky and can make prenups more complex. It is important for couples to take an open, realistic look at their financial picture and to disclose and discuss the following: • List everything each partner brings to the marriage – assets, properties, children, and even debts. • Decide which assets will be kept separate, which will be combined, and what will happen to future assets you might build together. • Discuss expectations for the treatment of your heirs and their planned inheritances. • Review spousal support expectations, including healthcare and end-of-life decisions. All these details can and should be included in the prenup so there is no confusion later. Remember to focus on what matters and be sure your prenup coordinates with existing wills, trusts and medical directives.
