There's a trend lately where parents post photos on social media in which their children's faces are obscured. Sometimes the faces are covered with emojis, sometimes blurred and sometimes just the backs of their heads are visible. Do these efforts protect their children's privacy, or do they provide a false sense of security? For most people today, their cell phone is their camera. But these photos contain meta data that can reveal details, including the model of phone used, and the precise time and location the image was taken. Beyond the technical data, though, are more obvious details we miss in our haste to share our children's precious moments. Cyber security experts advise us to take a moment between snapping a photo and posting it to examine the picture, looking for the following details: • A uniform with logo identifying your child's school or sports team • A street sign or house address revealing where your child (or their friends) live • Unique landmarks identifying where the photo was taken • A car with visible license plate • Images reflected in windows, mirrors, even sunglasses Be aware, too, of background clutter. Mail, packages, sticky notes, work or school files, invoices and receipts can all reveal personal or confidential information – names, addresses, passwords, account numbers – that you wouldn't want to get into the wrong hands. Details that reveal personal information about your children and their routines leave them vulnerable to harassment, stalking, bullying and can even be used to steal their identification, something often not discovered until the child is older and damage is already done. There's a vintage shampoo commercial with the slogan, "I told two friends, and they told two friends and so on and so on." That pretty much sums up social media. Whatever you share with friends and family on a public platform can be seen by their friends and friends of their friends. As an alternative, consider creating a private group where you can control who sees your posts. Remember, if you wouldn't share the image or information with a stranger, don't post it! – Anthony Kearns a d a y o f d i s C o v e r y a n d J o y ! Mane Stream Invites Families of Children with Special Needs to Its Annual Horse Show Mane Stream, a Premier Accredited Center of PATH Intl., invites families and the community to its Annual Horse Show and Family Fun Day on Sunday, October 26, 2025. The event, held from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Mane Stream farm at 83 Old Turnpike Road, is a perfect opportunity for families to come together, have fun, and witness the transformative power of adaptive riding and equine-assisted activities. The day will feature a horse show where our special needs participants will proudly showcase the skills they have developed through Mane Stream's adaptive riding program. This is a chance to see firsthand how the organization's mission to improve the quality of life for individuals with physical, developmental, emotional, and medical challenges comes to life. Adaptive riding offers a new world of independence and freedom, challenging riders in ways they've seldom been challenged before. Beyond the horse show, the event is also a 'Family Fun Day'. Children can enjoy a variety of activities, including temporary tattoos, face painting, crafts, and games. Food, snacks, and drinks will be available throughout the day for a modest donation to support Mane Stream's vital programs. "The Annual Horse Show and Family Fun Day is a wonderful way for our riders to celebrate their achievements and for the community to see the incredible work that happens here every day," said Director of Programs, Jen Dermody. "We are proud to provide a safe and supportive environment where children can find joy, build confidence, and experience the unique connection with a horse. We welcome all families, especially those with children who have special needs, to join us and learn more about the 'unbridled possibilities' that our programs offer." Mane Stream is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with physical, developmental, emotional, and medical challenges. The organization's licensed therapists use the horse's movement as a treatment tool during therapy sessions (OT, PT, SLP), while certified instructors teach riding skills using adaptive tack and teaching techniques. Come and see what Mane Stream is all about, and let your kids enjoy a day of family-friendly activities. Your presence supports a community that is helping children and adults achieve their goals, one hoofbeat at a time.If you know someone who could benefit from the programs Mane Stream offers, spread the word and encourage them to attend!
