Open to the public, there is a request to bring a covered dish to share. The lecture follows Supper at 6:15. Those interested in attending the lecture itself are also welcome. Call 908-832-6734 to make a reservation; leave your name and phone number for information or directions. Originally scheduled for the January Annual Meeting, inclement weather forced the cancelation of Mercer's Presentation. A retired professional engineer, he is a 28-year resident of Tewksbury, and has been collecting toys for over 40 years. A few years ago he was "hooked" on trains when he helped his grandson set up a new Christmas gift - a set of trains! Since then he has amassed a collection of all types of trains, samples of which he will bring to the meeting. In addition to toy collecting, he gardens, is a Hunterdon County Master Gardener and a Rutgers Environmental Steward. The history of toy trains in America is linked to events and trends in American history. To have toy trains, first there had to be railroads. For electric toy trains to be sold in volume, electricity had to be available throughout the country. The Great Depression resulted in acquisitions, bankruptcies and failures of toy train manufacturers, but as the railroads struggled to retain their ridership by developing and operating streamlined, high-speed trains, the toy train industry followed them and created some of their most attractive offerings. As the Depression wound down, World War II flared up and the manufacture of all metal toys ceased. This presentation will address these events and trends. The Tewksbury Historical Society is a New Jersey not-for-profit corporation, organized for the purpose of furthering research into, and the preservation and dissemination of, the history of the Township of Tewksbury. The Society requests donations of documents, records and small artifacts related to Tewksbury's History for its archives. Anyone interested in joining the Society or volunteering at its functions may call: 908.832.6734 or email: tewksburynjhistory@gmail.com. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram. I n d o o r C y C l I n g : By: Stephen Garber - ACE Certified Personal Trainer Indoor cycling has become one of the most popular forms of exercise, offering a convenient and effective way to improve both physical fitness and mental well-being. One of the greatest benefits of indoor cycling is accessibility. Unlike outdoor cycling, which depends on weather, daylight, and safe roads, indoor cycling can be done year-round in the comfort of a gym or home. This makes it an ideal choice for people with busy schedules or those who live in areas with harsh climates. From a physical standpoint, indoor cycling provides an excellent cardiovascular workout. It raises the heart rate, improves circulation, and strengthens the lungs, all of which contribute to better endurance and overall heart health. Because riders can adjust resistance levels, the workout can be tailored to different fitness goals, whether building stamina, burning calories, or strengthening leg muscles. Indoor cycling is also a low-impact exercise, making it gentle on the joints while still delivering a highly effective workout. Another key benefit is the mental boost it provides. Many cycling classes are set to energetic music and led by motivating instructors, creating a sense of community and excitement that makes exercise more enjoyable. Even when riding alone, the rhythm of pedaling can be meditative, reducing stress and improving mood. The release of endorphins during cycling also helps combat anxiety and depression, leaving participants with a greater sense of well-being. Finally, indoor cycling is highly efficient. A single 45-minute session can burn hundreds of calories, making it an excellent option for weight management. Combined with its accessibility, adaptability, and mental health benefits, indoor cycling offers a well-rounded form of exercise that can fit seamlessly into nearly any lifestyle. For these reasons, it continues to be a top choice for people seeking both fitness and enjoyment.
