1 5 o c t o b e r 2 0 2 5 Are you committed to making Hunterdon County the best county it can be? Do you want to work alongside our Republican elected officials and local volunteers to ensure your best interests are represented? If so, we have two great clubs you can join: The North Hunterdon Republican Club and The Tewksbury Republican Club. Both clubs are affiliated with the Hunterdon GOP, and each club meets in person to discuss local and federal policy, share volunteer opportunities for local campaigns, and hold political and social events throughout the year. The clubs have a lot of opportunities to help Republican causes and campaigns on the horizon, especially with the Governor's race and Assembly races in the Fall. A small contingent of Scouts from Troop 288 kicked off summer camp season with a fantastic week at Frontiers Camp, in the Green Mountains of Vermont. This unique camp is styled after an 1830s "mountain man" rendezvous, where there are no modern conveniences like flashlights or sleeping bags or gas stoves. Scouts learn essential frontier skills like archery, leatherwork, rifle and shotgun shooting, fishing, canoeing, campfire cooking, and many more, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, all while having a ton of fun! A fun and rewarding week of summer camp at Resica Falls Scout Reservation in the Poconos closed out summer camp season this year. Twenty-one Scouts from Troops 288 made the most of the myriad of opportunities available, and earned a total of 61 merit badges - from lifesaving to oceanography, athletics to metalwork and many, many more! Six of the Troop's newest Scouts worked hard all week learning and refining basic Scout skills, and several Scouts took to four wheels and gained their ATV certification. A memorable week for all! Troop 288 youth leadership met in late summer to plan the upcoming Scout year, with a packed program of campouts, outdoor activities and adventures! Up first is an exciting weekend of high rope course adventures, then a weekend of camping to scope out a new summer camp location for 2026, our fall Court of Honor, as well as work on several of our Life Scouts' Eagle projects. BSA Troop 288 (for boys) meets during the school year on Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm in the Fellowship Hall at Annandale Reformed Church or at Lebanon Baptist Camp (during fall and spring). New members are always welcome! For more info. on Scouting, visit www.BeAScout.scouting.org, or contact Scoutmaster Chris Neighbor (cgneighbor@comcast.net) to learn about joining BSA Troop 288. "Pale amber sunlight falls across The reddening October trees, That hardly sway before a breeze As so as summer: summer's loss Seems lile, dear! on days like these." ~ ― Ernest Dowson, " AUTUMNAL " The Poems and Prose of Ernest Dowson "I hate and fear snakes, because if you look into the eyes of any snake you will see that it knows all and more of the mystery of man's fall, and that it feels all the contempt that the Devil felt when Adam was evicted from Eden... ... besides which, its bite is generally fatal, and it twists up trouser legs."~ Rudyard Kipling "Look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under it." ~ Shakespeare, Macbeth "He is like a poisonous flower — stunning and deadly." ~ Elise Kova
