This time around, our opening day falls on the hallowed date of September 11. What to do, as a tribute to our nation on the most horrific day in our recent memory? There have been several feature and documentary films made about the tragedy, as well as books, interviews, lectures, poems, and songs. Next year will mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11. There will be a lot of looking back on 9/11/26, honoring the victims, the heroes. We Americans will all share in the grieving on that solemn day, each in our own way. 9/11/2025: How to honor this chilling date, this national wound, and make it about the other side of the horror, the healing side... to find a subject not politically nor agenda driven, not angry or loud? How about a focus on our nation's strength, our survival mechanism, rooted in the quiet integrity of America as lived out by its citizens? I looked for a recognizable example of just plain and relatable humanity, just plain GOODNESS. I was led to a story of a modern American icon who was the embodiment of kindness, understanding, patience, tenderness and respect toward all people, especially children... A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is an American biographical film about an episode in the life of Fred Rogers, "Mister Rogers", inspired by the 1998 article Can You Say... Hero? by Tom Junod, published in Esquire Magazine. It is a behind the scenes glimpse of Rogers (brilliantly played by Tom Hanks) away from the cameras, just being himself and in the process of doing so, exhibiting the best that our country stands for – the goodness and character of its people. We will observe the memory of 9/11 as we honor the legacy of this American hero. OPENING DAY LUNCHEON: Thursday, September 11 at noon, at the Dillon Library in Bedminster. Admission is $20. *To register see below. Several years ago, WF visited the FRICK COLLECTION, and we all agreed that it was stunning! However, over the past few years the Grande Dame has taken a break for a beauty adjustment and, now "refreshed," she welcomes all again to her salons and galleries! And to WESTMORELAND, the museum's first-ever café. Since tickets are much in demand, timed online tickets are required. Be sure to get your timed ticket for September 25, from 10:30 am onward. The return bus leaves at 3:00 pm, so if you choose to visit after lunch, give yourself enough time. Here's the link to buy tickets: www.FrickCollection.org. Also... the adjacent area on Madison has great shops and restaurants, and it's even in walking distance to the two Ralph Lauren flagship stores which are like fashion museums in and of themselves! TRIP TO THE FRICK COLLECTION: Thursday, September 25. Bus leaves Dillon Library, Bedminster NJ at 9:00 am. Return pickup at FRICK 3:00 pm. Admission is $45. (Does not include museum entry.) *To register for events contact us at: womensforumusa@gmail.com or call the Dillon Library at: 908.234.2325. Please remember – for The Frick Collection, you must purchase your timed ticket online ASAP at: www. FrickCollection.org. Upcoming dates for WF events: October 9 & 20 (this is a Monday trip to visit the Rodin Museum because it is closed on our customary WF Thursdays) November 6 & 20, December 4 & 18. Enjoy the rest of the Summer! As always, Evelyn Breheney Glynn, Founder/Director Women's Forum "All the months are crude experiments, out of which the perfect September is made." ~ Virginia Woolf
