Chartered by Congress in 1958, The Military Order of the Purple Heart is composed of military men and women who received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered in combat. Although our membership is restricted to the combat wounded and associate members, we support all veterans and their families with a myriad of nation-wide programs by Chapters and National Service Officers. Who We Are: The Richard Betts Chapter 700 is comprised of combat wounded veterans, associate members and volunteers from Hunterdon and Warren counties. What We Do: • Visit veterans in eighteen nursing homes throughout Hunterdon and Warren counties, providing Christmas gifts to each veteran in the homes, along with providing entertainment and companionship. • Visit schools in Hunterdon and Warren counties, sharing our service experiences, history of the Purple Heart and answering questions. • Contribute to scholarships for the children of veterans. • Provide resource information to assist veterans, their dependents and survivors, in obtaining their rightful benefits. • Provide resource information to help veterans and their family members obtain/replace lost or stolen medals. • Place flags on the graves of veterans. • Attend flag retirement and other ceremonies. • Participate in the installment of monuments in Hunterdon and Warren counties honoring both living and deceased Purple Heart recipients. • Participate in parades and celebrations in Hunterdon and Warren counties. How Your Donation is Spent: Your donations are spent on veterans in both Hunterdon and Warren counties. A minimal percentage of your donation helps us to maintain our insurance, which is required for a 501(c)19 Veterans Service Organization. No member of Chapter 700 receives payment of any kind, nor are any of the funds diverted to any other entity of the MOPH. Historic records tell us that in 1860, James Mulligan produced 25,000 bushels of lime here annually. In 2025, the cliffs are again echoing with sound of rock . . . music, that is! This year's lineup is a curated selection of well-known local bands who play a wide variety of popular music we all know, love and want to sing along and dance to! Saturday, August 16 will feature the Liquid Garden Band, known for their energetic performance and great mix of music that gets the crowd going! Liquid Garden brings an infectious level of fun to every performance, ensuring everyone of all ages has a blast at their show! Lastly, on August 30th, we'll have High in the Mid 80s (or, simply HITME). They are seven pro musicians, playing the best New Wave and Pop music from the early to mid-1980s. Formed in 2010, they have exceeded expectations, packed rooms and developed a faithful fan base of great people who just want to have fun and hear the music of their youth... played true to the original recordings. Doors open at 6 each night when the Clinton Music Studios Majors Band will warm the crowd with the headliners starting at 7:00 pm. Bring your chairs, blankets and dancing shoes! Tickets are only a $5 donation at the door thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, the law office of Craig M. Rothenberg, Jimmy's Coffeehouse and Clinton Music Studios. Picnics are welcome; however, we ask that you purchase your wine and beer here at this fun- and fund-raising event. W o m e n ' S F o r u m : S h A r i n g W i S d o m Dear Ladies, By the time you receive this we'll be into July, mid-Summer 2025. For years now we have had our own "Summer Movie Festival" – taking a little break from our culture and history topics and focusing on just plain fun. This year, with our upcoming trip to the great 1940's exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the documentary luncheon preceding it, we didn't get to have our July movie fun. However, for August we've got a goodie to make up for it!! I recently saw the very funny, well lauded and Tony awarded Broadway show Death Becomes Her. It was terrific, a LOT of laughs. I was reminded of the original iteration of this quirky story (sans music) which was a feature film starring some of the greatest of the greats of the Baby Boomer Hollywood Generation: Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, Isabella Rosselini and Bruce Willis! The best part (for me) in screening this for WF is that the wacky theme of this story is timely and should inspire some good discussion. I hope you'll agree. SUMMER MOVIE LUNCHEON: Death Becomes Her, Thursday August 14, at noon. Dillon Library in Bedminster, NJ. Admission is $20. Register here: http://engagedpatrons.org/EventsExtended. cfm?SiteID=3205&EventID=564430 As you can see, we have only one event in August. The upcoming dates for next month are on September 11 and 25. Keep learning and sharing your wisdom. As always, Evelyn Breheney Glynn, Founder/Director Women's Forum "The comfort zone is the great enemy to creativity; moving beyond it necessitates intuition, which in turn configures new perspectives and conquers fears." ~ Dan Stevens "Think le and think right, and think low and think high; Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try." ~ Dr. Seuss
