Discovery Days at The Red Mill Museum Village Fridays & Saturdays through August 23 | Weather Permitting Step into history this summer during Discovery Days at The Red Mill Museum Village when our historic site comes alive with interactive, hands-on experiences for all ages! Enjoy: • Guided Tours of our 10-acre site and 18th- and 19th-century buildings • Costumed Interpreters sharing the stories and skills of early American life • The Tinker Trike—a mobile cart packed with old-fashioned tools and materials for creative play • Traditional Trades & Crafts Demonstrations including: • Blacksmithing • Beeswax Candle Making • Sewing Circle • Spinning Bee: a weekly event inspired by the homespun movement, when colonial women spun, wove and wore homespun fabric to protest British taxation on imported textiles. These public spinning gatherings became a powerful symbol of resistance, offering women a public role in the growing independence movement. At our Weekly Spinning Bee, members of the Red Mill Education Team invite you to learn the historic skills of spinning wool and flax using drop spindles as well as antique and modern spinning wheels. Bring your own wheel or spindle and fiber to spin along—or try your hand using our equipment. (Locally sourced wool roving from Windswept Acres Farm in Pittstown will be available for purchase in the Museum Shop.) With a rotating schedule of engaging, family-friendly activities, every visit offers something new to discover! Discovery Days are included with museum admission, which is free for members. Follow our social media for the most updated schedule and details. For more information, please contact Curator of Education and Public Programming Robbie-Lynn Mwangi at: educator@theredmill.org.
