Have you ever considered running for office? Perhaps you can manage a campaign? You're never too young or old to get involved. We meet over Zoom the first Tuesday every month (which will resume in September) to discuss local happenings, and we also try to hold in- person socials throughout the year. We also try to do volunteer work as a group for local non profits, so get involved! Fall will be busy with the Governors race and we will need help to get our candidate elected. Reach out to Denise by email: clinton.twp.democrats@gmail. com. Not in the township but want to help? Reach out the County Democratic committee by email: info@hcdems.org. W o m e n ' S F o r u m : S h A r i n g W i S d o m The Forties Dear Ladies, The 1940's was a decade of contrasts – years of conflict and death and then... a rebirth. A world war and a madman at the head of a hideous threat, a glorious, albeit very costly, win for the Allied Forces, and a horrified and disbelieving world picking up the pieces and desperate to find a sense of sanity and normalcy again. Some of us were born in the Forties, and family pictures of our cute little selves also reveal dads in military uniforms, and worried looking and sometimes frazzled moms. These were the capable women who were left alone to raise the kids and support the war effort however they could (often shouldering "man's work" in factories and arsenal building facilities). The fashion industry cooperated by promoting the look of shorter skirts (not a yard to waste – uniforms came first) and combined the silhouette with the square padded shoulder. Hollywood then glamorized the look and by the end of the war our GIs came home to their women in seamed stockings and platform shoes, flirty skirts and poufy hairstyles, pouty red lips and painted fingernails. What all this ultra femininity would lead to one can only imagine!! As always, the art world would be the memory keeper. The fine arts and literature, music, theater, film and even fashion tell us stories of that most intense of times. And as we all know, technology – some of which, very scary – was surging apace. For the month of July, we'll be doing a study of the Forties starting with a duo of documentary screenings at our: REMEMBERING THE FORTIES LUNCHEON: Thursday, July 10 at noon. Dillon Library, Bedminster, NJ. Admission is $20. Register here: http://engagedpatrons.org/EventsExtended. cfm?SiteID=3205&EventID=562183 Our tribute to the Forties continues with a trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and a special exhibit titled: BOOM! ART AND DESIGN IN THE 1940s! Tracing the surge in creativity and transformations in culture and the arts during one of history's most tumultuous decades, BOOM! ART AND DESIGN IN THE 1940'S looks at the complex shifts in technology and the arts, including music, film and fashion that surged in a thunderous decade... PMA TRIP TO THE PHILADELPHIA MUSEUM OF ART: Thursday July 24. Bus leaves Dillon Library, (in Bedminster NJ) at 9:00 am. Return pickup at the museum is at 3:00 pm. Admission is $45, but does not include entry to museum. Register here: http://engagedpatrons.org/EventsExtended. cfm?SiteID=3205&EventID=562184 Looking forward to a great July of reminiscing, learning and most of all, of Sharing Wisdom ~ together! Historic records tell us that in 1860, James Mulligan produced 25,000 bushels of lime here annually. In 2025, the cliffs are again echoing with sound of rock . . . music, that is! This year's lineup is a curated selection of well-known local bands who play a wide variety of popular music we all know, love and want to sing along and dance to! First up are the Captains of Leisure on Saturday June 28. This eight piece band whose members are based in North Jersey features layered 3- and 4-part harmonies over a 3-piece charted horn section. Their broad repertoire consists primarily of classic (and some lesser known) "old school" songs by bands such as Chicago, Steely Dan, Earth, Wind & Fire, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Tower of Power, Van Morrison, and a good selection of the Motown sounds among so much more. The summer concert season will continue on Saturday August 16 with the Liquid Garden Band, known for their energetic performance and great mix of music that gets the crowd going! Liquid Garden brings an infectious level of fun to every performance, ensuring everyone of all ages has a blast at their show! Lastly, on August 30th, we'll have High in the Mid 80s (or, simply HITME). They are seven pro musicians, playing the best New Wave and Pop music from the early to mid-1980s. Formed in 2010, they have exceeded expectations, packed rooms and developed a faithful fan base of great people who just want to have fun and hear the music of their youth... played true to the original recordings. Doors open at 6 each night when the Clinton Music Studios Majors Band will warm the crowd with the headliners starting at 7. Bring your chairs, blankets and dancing shoes! Tickets are only a $5 donation at the door thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, the law office of Craig M. Rothenberg, Jimmy's Coffeehouse and Clinton Music Studios. Picnics are welcome; however, we ask that you purchase your wine and beer here at this fun- and fund-raising event. t h e h u n t e r d o n h e A L t h A u x i L i A r Y Since 1984, the Hunterdon Health Auxiliary has played a vital role in supporting the mission of Hunterdon Health to advance quality Health in the community. Most volunteers say their greatest reward is the sense of personal fulfillment and the sense of fellowship that comes with exploring new interests and sharing new experiences with fellow members. With our fundraising, we have succeeded in helping to fund numerous programs and technological needs within the healthcare system.
