Hi Julie, Living in the Commons of Lebanon, we have
had infestation of the Eastern Tent caterpillars more
so in the past few years. They are pests and eat several
types of trees. Please help to educate homeowners to
cut off the webs as they can, bag and discard.A web
may have 400+ eggs that will hatch.
When the caterpillars hatch, you can pick them up
with your fingers and put in a ziploc bag or tupper
type plastic container to discard
so they don't eat vegetation
and then lay eggs for next year
to hatch and continue the life
cycle. This approach is FREE,
uses no pesticides and can help
to minimize future destruction.
By the time the next issue will
be out, they will be crawling
along and would be a good time
for people to eradicate. They need
to make sure they don't kill beneficial caterpillars like butterflies! Maybe
you could have a local expert post an article! Thank you, Rose
Dear Rose, Thank you for your interesting letter! We've dealt
with tent caterpillars on our property, and they're awful. Readers, you can
find out more about these pests at: https://extension.umd.edu/resource/

you have some expertise in this matter, please drop us a line!
