This achievement has opened up funding opportunities, and our teachers were invited to present their work at a state conference. To earn a Bronze or Silver Award (the highest level), schools accumulate points for various actions, which are then reviewed by a state committee. A school needs to earn 150 points for Bronze and 350 points for Silver. Points are awarded for activities such as conducting waste audits, implementing anti-idling campaigns, recycling, repurposing scraps, and learning how to take active steps to effect change like assisting in writing policy and regulation. In fact, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will attend the May Board of Education meeting to be recognized for their work with Dr. Stager on creating an outdoor air policy regulation. This learning opportunity helped the students gain an understanding of another way to effect change. Patrick McGaheran School and Clinton Township Middle School are both in the process of applying for Bronze status, while Round Valley is aiming for Silver. The volunteerism, awareness of our environmental impact, and the lessons learned from this work will extend far beyond the awards. Students are learning that by partnering with others, they can make a meaningful difference at the local level. While we hope all our schools receive recognition for their hard work, we are proud of the efforts being made by Clinton Township School District Board of Education members, parents, staff and students. We also want to thank the Hunterdon County Shade Tree Commission for donating a tree to each school for Arbor Day, which we planted after Spring Break. Additionally, we are grateful to the Clinton Township Green Team for their instrumental support in many of these initiatives. There are countless opportunities to help students become more aware of ways to give back, and we deeply appreciate the dedication of our staff, students, and the state and local agencies that help our students and staff grow and thrive. – Sincerely, Dr. Melissa Stager, Ed.D Superintendent, CTSD A MESSAGE FROM DR.
