I am going to go through a few things in this article for you to try to help yourself. If they don't work, then we will know that you need to go see a podiatrist to see if he or she can help you. The first thing you need to consider is, do your feet hurt you all the time? If they don't hurt all the time, when do they hurt? Do they hurt in your shoes? Okay, are you wearing the right shoes? You need to be wearing the correct shoes for the activity that you're doing. If you trying to walk or exercise in thin shoes, loafers, heels, work boots, you are not wearing the correct shoes. Now that you have fixed this problem, let's look to see if they are properly fitted. You need to have a thumb's-width from the end of your biggest toe to the end of the shoe. If your toes are all the way to the end of the shoe, than your shoe is too small. You may not be the same shoe size that you were years ago – your feet can stretch out, expand, get bigger. So you might need to buy bigger shoes. You also need to get new shoes. Those old sneakers that are worn down are not doing you any good. Let's find out if you have other things going on. Do you have numbness in your feet, or in your toes? Does this happen all the time, or once in a while? If this happens all the time then you may have neuropathy, which can be related to diabetes. You should have your feet checked by a podiatrist. If this happens once in a while then your feet may get better if you're wearing the right shoes. If you're having heel pain that only happens when you get up in the morning or when you get up from a sitting position you may have plantar fasciitis – an inflammation of the ligament on the bottom of your foot. There are a lot of different treatments out there which you can try, but I wouldn't recommend overstretching or using a frozen soda can too much. Obviously, if the pain hasn't gone away after a couple of weeks, then you should go see a podiatrist, and he or she can help you a lot. And no, you don't always have to get a cortisone injection! DR.
