Get ready to cast your lines as the annual Clinton Sunrise Rotary Pete Pender Memorial Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, May 3, rain or shine at DeMott Pond, on Route 173 in Clinton, across the street and one block west of the Courtyard Senior Living facility. Registration will be held from 8:00 am-9:00 am; fishing is from 9:00 am – 12 noon. The Fishing Derby promotes fun family time and good sportsmanship at no charge to participating families! DeMott Pond will be stocked with fish for this free family event, and bait, bobbers and hooks will be supplied – just bring your own pole. The event is open to youth ages 16 years old and under (16 year olds will need a fishing license per NJ regulations). Each participant will receive a raffle ticket for a door prize. Prizes will also be awarded for various categories such as First Fish Caught, Longest Fish and Most Fish Caught. The derby has been a long standing tradition in Clinton and a positive experience for the youth of the community. The event, sponsored by the Clinton Sunrise Rotary, is also supported by the Town of Clinton, Clinton Police and local businesses and organizations. To participate as a sponsor, go to: www. ClintonSunriseRotary.org to download a sponsorship form. Members of the Round Valley Trout Association will be on hand to provide information on fishing. Rotary will also be holding a food collection of non-perishable items at the derby to benefit the Open Cupboard Food Pantry: www. OpenCupboardFoodPantry.org.
