C O M The Red Mill Museum Village's Education Team has been working passionately and diligently to create interactive programing. After a summer of research and planning, many of these new experiences were unveiled at September's Hands-On History event and now they are being applied to the upcoming school tour season. We are proud to introduce this newly reimagined list of school tour offerings: Community & Industry, Grades 1 and up: This STEAM-focused tour offers students a glimpse into how essential tasks were carried out at home and work from the 1800s to the early 1900s. The roles of technology, engineering and innovation during this period are emphasized. Throughout this tour, the roles of children in each location are highlighted, with the experience tailored to be age-appropriate for students, ensuring an engaging and educational visit. Colonial Life, Hands-On Experience, Grade 1 and up: This tour provides a rich educational experience by immersing students in daily life for children during the 1700s in rural New Jersey. Through hands-on workshops and tours of historic structures, it provides a well-rounded understanding of the daily challenges and local industries of that era. Students will be instructed in candle making, wool processing and woodworking basics. Each will bring home items that they make themselves including a hand-dipped candle and a Roving Sheep toy. These tours highlight the importance of local industries and give students an understanding and appreciation for the self- sufficiency of families in the colonial period. R e v o l u t i o n a r y L e t t e r s , H a n d s - O n Experience, Grade 3 and up: In this engaging program, students will experience life on the home front during the Revolutionary War through real letters exchanged between a soldier and his wife in 1777. These letters provide insight into the challenges of family life when communication was scarce and difficult, touching on both the famous battles in New Jersey and the everyday concerns of farm life and local news. Students will visit a reproduction 1700s log cabin, where they'll learn about life for families during the war. They'll also have the unique opportunity to write with a feather quill, practicing the alphabet and crafting their own letter, which they can take home. Throughout the tour, children's roles in family and community life are emphasized, and the content is tailored to be age-appropriate, ensuring a meaningful and interactive learning experience.
