"I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him." ~ Abraham Lincoln "Friendship isn't a big thing — it's a million lile things."~ Paulo Coelho BSA Troop 288 met at Annandale Reformed Church recently to celebrate the achievements of their Scouts at their annual Fall Court of Honor. The ceremony was an opportunity for family and friends to gather to acknowledge the merit badges, rank advancements and awards earned over the past eight months. Twenty five Scouts were recognized at the Court of Honor, earning a total of 112 individual merit badges, in skills ranging from Welding to Game Design, Lifesaving to Personal Fitness, Environmental Science to Law, and many, many more! Many of these merit badges were earned while Scouts participated in summer camps in Vermont and the Pocono Mountains. In addition, nine Scouts received rank advancement, continuing their journeys through the tiers of Scout skills. The Troop also sent a "high adventure" crew to Philmont Scout Reservation this past summer, for a challenging twelve day backpacking trek in the New Mexico wilderness. This crew of nine Scouts and leaders earned the BSA 50 Miler Award, given for undertaking a trek of not less than 50 miles over a minimum of five days, and undertaking 10 hours of conservation-related service projects. While completing their trek of over 100 miles, these Scouts also earned the Duty to God and Wilderness Pledge Achievement patches, which were awarded at the Court of Honor. BSA Troop 288 meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm in the Fellowship Hall at Annandale Reformed Church, and welcomes new members to join us.
