1 1 n o v e m b e r 2 0 2 4 w o m e n ' s f o r u m : s H a r i n g w i s d o m Dear Ladies, There is no point in ignoring the obvious. This year, our first November event falls two days after the election. For certain, there will be some happy people in the room and then some not so happy ones. In an effort to keep neutrality in our own "no politics zone," our topic will be an old regular which we ALL enjoy - THE WORLD OF FASHION, combined with a WF standard, EXTRAORDINARY WOMEN. At our very first event back in June 2017, the topic for discussion was Extraordinary Woman Dame Stephanie Shirley, a forerunner in the setup of a high tech software company in the 1960's to provide for her business a work-from- home capability for women who were raising children. Since then, we've explored a variety of topics, but the category of EXTRAORDINARY WOMEN has become a mainstay. These ladies inspire, they surprise, they are never boring, they are true individuals and they are EXTRAORDINARY! For the month of November 2024, the ladies of WF will be getting up-close-and-personal with "Her Royal Chic-ness," Extraordinary Woman Anna Wintour. When you mix extraordinariness with sole power over a multi-billion dollar fashion empire, you get Anna Wintour. Whether you like her, loathe her, or just find her amusing, probably a good percentage of what hangs in your closet in one way or another was given her seal of approval. At the helm of American VOGUE magazine for over 35 years, Anna Wintour took the prestigious position of editor-in-chief from style influencer to mega- powerful High Priestess of the fashion industry. Her power is trusted, respected, feared. She inspired a novel, which inspired a movie. She is currently 74 years old, looks great in her iconic bob and dark glasses, and shows no sign of stopping. Via a documentary we'll trace her legendary route to becoming Extraordinary! THE ANNA WINTOUR LUNCHEON - Thursday November 7 at noon. Dillon Library Bedminster. Admission is $20. To register, see below. One day a little novel came along with a curious title, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. It became a bestseller. Hollywood got hold of it and Meryl Streep took on the title role of Miranda Priestly (aka, you-know-who) and "the rest is history". Written by Lauren Weisberger, a former assistant to the famed editor-in-chief of the world's most powerful fashion publication, this movie is a fictitious (??) look into the hallowed halls of American VOGUE and its leader. For a little pre-holidays dip into the realm of fantasy we'll screen the dubious and delicious classic at our: PRADA LUNCHEON, Thursday, November 21 at noon. Dillon Library, Bedminster. Admission is $20. To register, see below. Upcoming events - December 5 and 19. To register for our programs, please contact: womensforumusa@gmail.com or call the Dillon Library: 908.234.2325. Looking forward to celebrating the Holiday Season with you at Women's Forum! – As always, Evelyn Breheney Glynn, Founder/Director Women's Forum d o n ' t m i s s m a n e s t r e a m ' s H u g e t a C K s a l e o n n o v e m b e r 1 7 !
