will help raise
funds in order
to sponsor a service dog for a brain tumor patient.
"Brain tumor patients' needs can be very different from those
with other cancers," Deborah Rizzo, founder and Executive Director of
In Love And Song, states. "Tumor resection, or removal, can affect
speech, cognitive abilities, memory, and even personality. A service
dog will help a brain tumor patient improve their quality of life and make it
easier for them to interact with the world."
Service dogs cost approximately $15,000, a hefty investment from
a patient.
"The cost of brain tumor treatment has ballooned from about
$417,000 in 2010 to over $700,000 in 2024. That's an increase of over
60%. Service dogs are incredibly needed but are cost-prohibitive, especially
for this population. In Love And Song would love to help a brain tumor
patient in honor of Lou Zucker." Mr. Zucker passed away from a brain tumor
in 2010. His wife, Judy, sponsors service dogs for veterans affected by PTSD.
"This dog," Deb continues, "would allow us to honor Mr. and Mrs.
Zucker and would allow us to continue Mr. Z's legacy."
