After turning it every which way I decided that the pink image was some kind of reference to a turkey. And why the pink? In November? However, this morning - the revelation! It's not a turkey at all. The pink is an homage to Barbie!! That current omnipresent i c o n t h a t i s i n s p i r i n g w o n d e r f u l c o n v e r s a t i o n among women this fall!! Tell me, am I right? – Perplexed in Annandale Dear Perplexed, It's interesting that you ask that because the original colors I had for the cover were more in the green, brown and tan spectrum. When I picked up the first printed proof, the cover design just didn't "sing" for me. I've found that if I don't really like, or even love, the cover when it goes to print, I'm going to be unhappy whenever I see it – the designer's dilemma. (See below). After awhile, it began to feel like choosing wallpaper -- there were endless possibilities! So, upon getting that first printed proof (which we also use to proof-read the text, and make sure that everything looks the best it can) I then went back into Photoshop and worked with many of the layers, changing hues, colors, filters and effects, to the point where I was happy with it on my computer screen. When I received the second proof, that one leaf you're talking about came out more pink than what I expected (purple-ish, even eggplant-ish) but, since it was getting late and I was anxious to get to print with this issue, due to the upcoming election info within, I went with it. Plus, I do love pink! This is a short-story-long way of saying that, well, it can mean anything you want it to mean – I love Barbie a n d I ' m a l l f o r w o m e n ' s empowerment so we can go with that explanation, lol! Stay tuned for the December issue cover!
