1 1 o c t o b e r 2 0 2 3 n E x T s T E p A D V i s i n g , L L C Welcome to Fall! Another school year is well underway. I wanted to take a moment to address some frequently asked questions that I receive during consults. Who uses a college advisor? According to the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), 26% of high achieving seniors used an independent educational consultant in their college search and application process. My clients have ranged from the valedictorian to students in the bottom half of the class. Who is your typical client? I don't have a 'typical' client which makes me happy as I like variety. Most of my clients are here in Hunterdon County, but since the pandemic made "Zoom" a household name - I have clients across the country. I enjoy working with Hunterdon and Somerset county students the best since I know a lot about the area schools as a former high school counselor. Do you work with student-athetes, home-schooled students, and artists? Yes, yes, and YES! Can you guarantee my son/daughter will get admitted AND receive a lot of financial aid? No. If someone tells you otherwise, run away from them fast! Why do I need your services? Doesn't the school do enough? While the high schools in our area have terrific counselors and teachers, they do not have the time to devote to your student and give them the space they need to really dig deep into your students thoughts about their future. The average high school counselor in our area spends a couple hours at most with one on one conversation with your student. I spend an average of 20-25 in person hours with your student and provide unlimited email communication. Don't students write their college essay in their English class? Each school operates differently. Some high schools have students write personal/ college essays at the end of junior year, some have them write them at the beginning of senior year. Some schools have workshops for a nominal fee, and some schools do nothing. In high schools where students write essays in the classroom, I have found that less than half ultimately use that essay for their college application. How many students do you work with? As the owner of Next Step Advising, LLC, I have taken on as many as 22 students per class year. Currently I have limited my caseload to 16 students as I am also teaching two classes at Rutgers and advising first year and transfer students on a part time basis. I feel it is important to always be connected to the college scene and I am fortunate to also have Nick Linfante onboard (a graduate of Voorhees and current college advisor and coach at Delbarton HS). We are both currently welcoming the Classes of 2025 and 2026 to our caseloads. Please call: 908.642.8509 or go online at: www.NextStepAdvising.com to book an appointment with either one of us. – Nicole Smith, Next Step Advising L E b A n o n E L E C T R o L y s i s Looking for a safe and affordable way to permanently remove hair? Electrolysis is recognized as the only method of permanent hair removal. It has been around since 1875 when Dr. Charles Michel, an ophthalmologist, first utilized a delicate needle to conduct electrical current to remove an ingrown eyelash. Since then, millions of men and women have benefited from his discovery. I have been an Electrologist since 1997. I am state licensed and a CPE (Certified Professional Electrologist). I am a member of the American Electrology Association, which means that I not only have to fulfill the CEU requirements for my state license but also for my CPE. I am also the Treasurer for the NJ Electrologist Association. Additionally, I adhere to National Infection Control Standards, which have been developed for Electrologists by the AEA with the assistance of the CDC since electrolysis is now under the Medical Board. I enjoy helping people feel good about themselves and alleviating their need to pluck or shave. I recognize that electrolysis is a very personal matter and making the client feel comfortable, confident, and hopeful is a big part of my business. I help men and women of all ages, anywhere from the teenage years to eighties! Electrolysis works on all types of hair, which makes it unique from any other permanent hair removal service. It's a service that none of my clients have ever regretted getting, with many of them wishing they hadn't waited so long to try electrolysis in the first place! I would love to help you with your hair removal needs! Give me a call (at: 908.890.0965) today for a consultation! We are conveniently located at: 270 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ 08833. – Sandra Hubiak LE, CPE Lebanon Electrolysis. "October is a symphony of permanence and change." ~ Bonaro W. Overstreet
