Hi Julie – Hi Julie,
I just read your EDITOR'S COLUMN [July 2023].
Congratulations on taking on the topic of mental health
in such a relatable way. It's always been so important,
but now, in our world's brokenness, monumentally
important.
Thank you for sharing the story of "Joey". So often mental illness is so
subtle that it gets mistaken for something else. Awareness is the key.
About your cover, love the colors, the big white presence, the energy. Is
that an abstract clock? Are you sending a message or is the message "Evelyn,
just enjoy the picture, everything doesn't have to have a meaning!"LOL
Thank you always for the WF presence and for keeping we Clintonites
so fabulously in "the know".
Stay cool,
Evelyn Breheney Glynn, Women's Forum
Hi Evelyn,
Thank you so much! I kept getting emailed articles, etc. about mental
health, so I figured it was a good time to address it. I've read that some
people actually feel more depressed in the summer than the winter. I haven't
experienced that myself, but I'm hoping that those readers who do might
feel some recognition. If the articles within that issue help even one reader,
then running them is worth it.
As for the cover, I had the idea of the red, white and blue paint powder
explosion, but then felt it needed more, so I added various 1960's atomic
art pieces to it, in layers with different effects. There's no real underlying
meaning except maybe patriotism/July 4th in a different way – or maybe
fireworks. I'd been listening to the B-52s and just love some of their early
cover art, so I think that drove the design for the July cover. Creative
influences are everywhere!
I'm so happy to help the WF and, as always, really appreciate your
enthusiasm and support. Stay tuned for the August issue!
Take care,
Julie
