The district was able to keep the taxes at the 2% cap while allowing for an upgraded security system, a replacement of outdated technology in some classrooms, and maintenance of current class size averages. This current budget will also ask the public to vote on two budget questions to fund a School Resource Officer (SRO) outside of the school's regular operating expenses. By doing the two separate questions, we are having the public vote to support this measure and also ensuring this role will be immune from future budget cuts. Each school resource officer will cost each individual household an estimated 58 cents per month, per $100,000 in assessed property value. If both questions are approved, it will cost an estimated $1.16 per $100,000 in assessed property value and it will guarantee that our schools will have an active Clinton Township Police Officer on site. For the 2022-2023 school year, the SRO position was funded through a grant. Our regular operating budget does not allow for the additional regularly occurring expense. Our mission is to fully educate each student to reach his or her full potential. The 2023-2024 budget allows us to do that and the additional budget questions ensure that we can do this in the safest environment possible. n Looking to Make a Difference? STAGER, CTSD SUPERINTENDENT: The Clinton Township School District was lucky enough to be awarded the NJDOE Climate Change Grant from the New Jersey Department of Education. Director of Curriculum, Learning and Grants, Carl Blanchard, worked with the Clinton Township Green Team and a group of dedicated teachers to focus on three projects. • At PMG, they are looking to build a waystation for monarch butterflies in the courtyard. • At RVS, the plan is to revitalize the vegetable garden to enrich science lessons and provide a community connection by donating produce to the local food bank. • At CTMS some classes will visit the Windy Acres site and map out ways this space can be used for research. Along with these projects, the district is going to focus on energy conservation through the Great Energy Challenge. This is a contest where we will challenge our students t o r e d u c e e n e r g y u s e d i n e a c h building. They will measure how much energy is used using plug in power meters funded by the grant. They will then work to be mindful of leaving things plugged in and turning off the lights. This is a fun way for our students to realize the impact each of us has on the world around us. Finally, our PMG Climate Team will be focusing on reviving the beloved ficus planted in the atrium of Patrick McGaheran School. This grant will allow us to create innovative projects that will serve both our current and future students. We are excited to share our work with the community. – Sincerely, Dr. Melissa Stager, Ed.D Superintendent, CTSD The Clinton Township School District, in partnership with the community, achieves excellence for each child by ensuring a meaningful and challenging educational experience in a supportive environment; developing life-long learners who are responsible and productive citizens.
