C l i n t o n T o w n s h i p r e s i d e n t , O w e n Maslanka, has achieved the highest rank in Boy Scouts of America, becoming an Eagle Scout. A member of BSA Troop 200, chartered by the Lebanon Reformed Church, Owen earned the rank of Eagle on March 16, becoming the troop's ninety-sixth Eagle Scout. A s e n i o r a t R a r i t a n L e a r n i n g Cooperative, Owen's Eagle Scout project consisted of designing a plan and organizing a team of more than a dozen volunteers to create a flag retirement bin located at 96 Main Street in Lebanon Borough. In addition to the retirement bin, he created a web page with flag etiquette information. Owen's path to Eagle Scout began eleven years ago as a Cub Scout in Pack 901, where he earned the Arrow of Light as a Webelo. As a member of Troop 200 he has served as a Patrol Leader, Historian, Bugler, Den Chief, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. Earning 48 merit badges, Owen also received the National Outdoor Camping and Hiking awards, many of the requirements for these two awards were earned during a two-week trek to Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico. In 2020, he was selected for membership in the Order of the Arrow, scouting's National Honor Society, earning the rank of Brotherhood and serving as the Pahaquarra Chapter Chief, before becoming Troop 200's ninety-sixth Eagle Scout. Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program. S i n c e i t s i n c e p t i o n i n 1911, only four percent of Scouts have earned this rank. To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a Scout must be active in their troop, provide leadership, earn 21 merit Eagle badges and demonstrate that they live by the principles of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. They must also plan, develop and give leadership to others in a service project benefiting a religious institution, school or community group. For nearly seventy years, Troop 200 has been a high-adventure, boy-led troop. They meet Monday evenings at Lebanon Reformed Church. Owen's flag etiquette information web page can be found on the troop's website. Visit: www.BoyScoutTroop200.org for more information.
