W h y s t a g e a h o m e i n a h o t m a r k e t ? by Amy DeVita, Stonybrook Realty Inventory is low and listings are going into Attorney Review in days, if not hours. So why would you even bother to stage your house in this market? If you've been on the buyer side over the past year, you've likely seen a listing or two that has simply gone on the market at a high price but leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to aesthetics. And how did that make you feel? Well, the opposite holds true when sellers leverage the "applied market research" of staging to highlight its best features and make more potential buyers feel "right at home" in their house. This practice can elicit more offers, and higher offers, from which the seller can choose. A recent study from the Real Estate Staging Association showed that investing 1.3% results in an average of 7.1% over list price. Art has the power to motivate us and turn thinking into doing, fueling innovation and leading to fresh ideas, scientific breakthroughs, and technological improvements. Art challenges us to reflect on ourselves and our society as a whole, while helping us think about new ideas, confront problems, and consider possibilities. In the midst of tragedy, art helps us heal, and it can also help us celebrate and commemorate. Art can have a purpose in and of itself; it can inspire, bring joy, or give solace. VGOO is the only nonprofit organization in New Jersey, and one of only a few in the country, that utilize volunteers to serve as guardians for incapacitated adults with no one else to serve in this role. Because of our volunteers, older people with dementia and other adults with mental illness and developmental disabilities have someone that is committed to just one person and making sure that they are living their lives in a manner that reflects their wishes and values and ensures they are safe, their assets are protected, and they are not forgotten. We are holding a fundraising event on April 15 at Arties's Bar and Grill outside of Frenchtown to help support our operations, which is largely dependent on private foundations and donors for support. We had selected several people to honor at this event two years ago that were stand outs in their response to the Covid pandemic in Hunterdon County. We had to postpone this event until this year but we're still pleased to be honoring the following local heroes! Vincent Albani Detective, Lambertville Police Department Kim Blanda RN, BSN Director of Community Relations, Hunterdon Healthcare Systems Patrick J. Gavin President/CEO, Hunterdon Healthcare Systems Jeannine Gorman Executive Director, Flemington Area Food Pantry D.J.
