Need new books for the spring and summer? The Friends of the Hunterdon County Library (FOHCL) have the perfect solution for you! The annual book sale will be back on Saturday April 22nd and continuing through April 24. This year marks the 25th Annual Book Sale sponsored by FOHCL volunteers who organize this major fundraiser for supporting and enhancing the Hunterdon County Library System (Clinton North County Branch, Flemington Headquarters, West Amwell South Branch) and seven county affiliate libraries. Book donations are needed to supply the sale. How to donate books? There are two convenient places for donations: • North Branch Library in Clinton -Tuesday April 4 and Wednesday April 5 until 5:00 pm and Thursday April 6 from 10:00 am-3:00 pm • At a book drive – DROP OFFs are scheduled: Hunterdon County Fair Grounds in Ringoes on Saturdays, April 8 and 15 from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. Looking for an opportunity to volunteer and meet new people? FOHCL needs you! There are numerous volunteer opportunities, from setting up tables to sorting books, categorizing tables in the weeks preceding the sale, and cashiering, re-stocking tables, greeters and directing parking during the sale. Volunteers may select a schedule that will work best for them. Sign up for a few hours, a few days, or every day! Help is needed from Tuesday April 4 through Tuesday, April 25. Volunteer opportunities are available for both sites: Ringoes at the Fair Grounds and North Branch Library in Clinton. Students are welcome to participate and can get service credits if they are 13+ years old! Please see our website: www.hclibrary. us/friends/booksale.htm for items not appropriate for donations as these items add to the cost of our disposal. For more information about the sale and volunteer forms, visit our website listed above, send an email to: fohclbooksale@gmail. com or call the HCL reference desk at: 908.730.6135. We look forward to seeing you! g e t t h e m o s t o u t o f y o u r W o r K o u t W i t h p e r i p h e r a l h e a r t a C t i o n t r a i n i n g ! By: Justin Juliano - NASM Certified Personal Trainer Peripheral Heart Action (PHA) training is a method of exercise that combines cardiovascular work with resistance training. PHA aims to work multiple muscle groups in the body by alternating between upper and lower body exercises. The idea behind PHA training is that by working the upper and lower body in sequence, your heart rate remains elevated throughout the workout, while simultaneously gaining the benefits of resistance training. PHA training usually involves a circuit-style workout that alternates between upper body exercises (such as push-ups or pull-ups) and lower body exercises (such as squats or lunges). The idea is that by working the upper body, the heart rate is elevated, and then by working the lower body the heart rate remains elevated while still allowing the upper body to recover. This method of training forces the blood to quickly circulate through the body, increasing caloric expenditure and is theorized to decrease body fat and increase lean muscle mass. PHA training is usually considered to be a high-intensity form of training and is performed using a combination of bodyweight exercises, resistance bands, and dumbbells. It can be done as a stand alone workout or as part of a larger workout program. As with any exercise program, it's important to consult a doctor or a personal trainer before starting PHA training, especially if you have any blood pressure deviations (high/low blood pressure). Also, you should adjust the intensity and duration of the exercises according to your fitness level and goals.
