"Can you please cancel my, uh, subscription to the Clinton Township
Newsletter?" the man on the other end of the telephone line asked me
somewhat timidly. I had taken over the Newsletter a couple of years
prior, and I was still trying to figure things out at this point.
"CTNL is a bulk mailing, so that's not really possible, but may I ask why
you no longer wish to receive it?" I answered, with my own question.
"Well, no offense but I'm a bachelor and I'm just not really interested in
what the Girl Scouts are doing this month, or anytime, for that matter." I
had to laugh; I could see his point even though, as a former Girl Scout
myself, I do find their monthly adventures interesting.
"Well, do you mind if I ask, what are you interested in?", I countered.
"I'm interested in music. I, um, have a band," he answered. I came back
with, "Really? That's cool. Do you have any local gigs scheduled? I could
put an article about them in the next issue."
"Wow -- thank you -- that'd be awesome!" He emailed me his band's
information, I got it into the next couple of issues, and he became that
much more interested in receiving the Clinton Township Newsletter. It
felt like a small triumph for me.
Here at the Clinton Township Newsletter, we want to reflect the goings-
on of the entire community. We aim to please all of you. If we had a
motto it would be that we get the word out, hopefully in an attractive
and entertaining package. I consider CTNL a community in publication
form and, as such, we try – try! – to be non-sectarian and non-political,
although we're happy to run articles for your house of worship or political
organization. We endeavor to help all of the non-profits who utilize our
services, as well as all of the small businesses and trades-people who
advertise in our pages. When you support them, you help the Clinton
Township Newsletter stay in business, and we sincerely appreciate it.
If there's a local event or organization (or even semi-local – we're happy
to travel a bit!) that you think would benefit from being presented in the
Newsletter, please drop us a line at: ctnl@comcast.net. Connect with
us on Facebook and Instagram, too! Most of all, we are so grateful for
the many, many readers who let us know how much they love CTNL,
who pass the printed version on to their friends and loved ones, who
read the Newsletter in waiting rooms throughout the county, and who
recommend us to their favorite businesses. You encourage us to keep
CTNL going during a time when lots of printed publications are shutting
down. Thank you!
As of this writing in February, we've just been through an "arctic blast"
and have come out the other side to warming temps. As you can see,
this month's cover is full-on St. Patrick's Day! I love St. Patrick's Day
because, well, I'm a Flynn, but also, as my mother-in-law always says,
"St. Patrick's Day means that there's no going back!!" To winter, that is.
Spring is very much right around the corner and longer, sunnier days
are ahead. I can't wait! In like a lion...
