In December, Scouts from Troops 288 & 432, participated in the Peace Light Ceremony at Annandale Reformed Church. This annual ceremony, open to the public, celebrated the arrival and sharing of the Peace Light, a perpetual flame from the grotto of The Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Both Troops also witnessed a journey of a different kind at Washington Crossing Historic Park, when they attended the reenactment of General Washington's crossing of the Delaware, with Scouts enjoying a knowledgeable guest speaker from West Point, the sound of fife & drums, and the blast of cannon shots over the Delaware River. The Troop's first "campout" of 2023 took place at the New Jersey Rock Gym in Fairfield, where Scouts made the most of their lock-in opportunity to use 12,000 square feet of indoor climbing walls, before settling down for the night. Outdoor skills were tested at the annual Klondike Derby at Lebanon Township Memorial Park in January, where local BSA Tr o o p s g a t h e r e d t o d e m o n s t r a t e skills such as first aid, fire building and lashing. The event concluded w i t h a h i g h l y c o m p e t i t i v e s l e d race, which required cooperation and communication amongst patrol members to successfully navigate the sled course. Tent camping – yes, in winter! – rounded out this fun weekend. Thanks to BSA Troop 92 for hosting! February saw the troop celebrate their Winter Court of Honor, acknowledging the hard work of their Scouts over the preceding months, with a variety of merit badges, as well as numerous rank advancements, awarded. BSA Troop 288 meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm in the Fellowship Hall at Annandale Reformed Church, and welcomes new members to join us.
