This year marks the 25th Annual Book Sale sponsored by volunteers of FOHCL who have organized this major fundraiser for the purpose of supporting and enhancing the Hunterdon County Library System. What does FOHCL do? Financial support is given to the Hunterdon County Library system for programs such as Maker's Day for youths, lecture series, seasonal concerts, book kits for lending to community book clubs, museum pass program, e-book subscriptions as well as student college scholarships. Book donations are needed to supply the sale. There are two convenient places for donations: Hunterdon County Fair Grounds in Ringoes DROP OFF DRIVES: Saturdays April 8th and 15th from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. DONATIONS @ North Branch Library, Clinton: Tuesday April 4th and Wednesday April 5 until 5:00 pm and Thursday, April 6 until 3:00 pm. Drop-offs are limited to three bags or boxes. Want to get involved? FOHCL needs you! There are numerous volunteer opportunities, from setting up tables to sorting books and categorizing tables in the weeks preceding the sale, and cashiering, organizing tables, greeters and directing parking during the sale. Volunteers may select a schedule that will work best for them – sign up for a few hours, a few days, or every day! Help is needed from Tuesday April 4 through Tuesday, April 25. Volunteer opportunities are available for both sites: Ringoes at the Fairgrounds and North Branch Library in Clinton. Students are welcome to participate if they are 13+ years old – and service credit will be given. The book sale is an all-volunteer effort, organized by FOCHL members. FOCHL looks forward to seeing you as a volunteer, a book donator, sale shopper, or all three! FOHCL is a friendly group and welcomes you to join us! Enter… cardiovascular exercise, which includes activities such as: running, swimming, cycling, boxing, step aerobics, Zumba and so many other options. Too often we think of this type of exercise as a promoter of weight loss, but we fail to see many hidden benefits to strengthening our hearts. Here are a few you may never have considered. 1) You will have a better chance at saving yourself in an emergency situation, such as exiting a burning building or running from something threatening you. 2) You 'll have more energy so you can participate in physical activities like walking, hiking, playing with children/grandchildren. 3) There will be more opportunities when vacationing to explore places and things that involve walking. 4) Enhances cognitive function by increasing oxygen flow to the brain and boosting production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor which promotes the growth of new brain cells. In turn, this helps to protect the brain from diseases such as Alzheimer's. 5) While you're exercising you can watch or listen to a show, podcast or book, taking you away from the stress of life which is very healthy for your heart. 6) Your new cardiovascular fitness program can lead to new friends! Walking with a friend or making a date to meet at the fitness center is a very effective way to ensure you complete your workout session. People often make friends with others who workout at the same time or take classes together. Having a strong social network is very heart healthy. So, make a goal to strengthen your heart this month by stopping at the Wellness Center for a tour and starting a cardiovascular exercise program! Visit our website to learn more about all of the great services we offer here at the Hunterdon Health & Wellness Centers! The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization's commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. The certification recognizes Hunterdon Health's efforts to provide patient and family-centered care and to optimize the quality of life for adult and pediatric patients with serious illnesses. Palliative care addresses a patient's physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs, and facilitates patient autonomy, access to information and choice. "Hunterdon Palliative Care is specialized care that focuses on the whole person. It recognizes that people living with serious illness need expert symptom management, as well as spiritual and emotional support. Palliative care provides relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of a serious illness, no matter what the diagnosis. It is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness and can be provided along with curative treatment. The goal is to improve the quality of life for both the patient and the family," stated Varun Doddapaneni, MD, Medical Director, Hunterdon Palliative Care. Hunterdon Health underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review in November of 2022. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards including program management, supporting self-management, and delivering and facilitating clinical care, and conducted onsite observations and interviews. For patients in the hospital, a palliative care consult may be requested by the physician in charge. For outpatients, please call: 908.237.7018 to set up an appointment. "There's all kinds of reasons that you fall in love with one person rather than another: Timing is important. Proximity is important. Mystery is important." ~ Helen Fisher
