I did not call the number as I realized I had never entered their sweepstakes so I could not have won. I did Google Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes and found their phone number listed was different from the phone number I received on the message service. I presumed the phone message was an attempt to defraud. The information Google gave suggested that phone calls such as this should be reported to the local police. I hope other seniors are aware of this. Sincerely, Elizabeth H. Hi Elizabeth, Thank you for sharing this information. You are correct, these types of phone calls are associated with scammers and should be reported to your local police department. Even if the recipient of the telephone calls has not suffered a monetary loss, it is still important that law enforcement be notified, for intelligence gathering purposes and so we can remind our communities to be on the lookout for these scams. Other common scams include the "Grandparents Bail Scam," IRS and Social Security scams and "Geek Squad" scams. According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) website (https://consumer.ftc.gov/ articles/how-avoid-scam), there are four signs that a phone call is most likely a scam: 1. Scammers PRETEND to be from an organization you know. 2. Scammers say there's a PROBLEM or a PRIZE. 3. Scammers PRESSURE you to act IMMEDIATELY. 4. Scammers tell you to PAY in a specific way. Please follow us on social media to receive notifications of scams in our area, visit the FTC website for additional information and as always, if you are unsure, please contact your local police department for assistance. Regards, Officer Raff n O f f i c e r R a f f a e l l a V a s t o l a grew up locally in Kingwood Township, and has been in law e n f o r c e m e n t f o r a l m o s t t w o decades, serving many of them with CTPD. She, her husband and their five children currently live in Raritan Township. One of their sons is following Raff's footsteps – he's beginning his law enforcement career after serving in the Marines. Officer Raff thinks Clinton Township is a wonderful place to work, live and raise a family, and she's very proud to serve and protect our community with a dedicated group of men and women who help to keep it that way for everyone. n Do you have questions for our local Clinton Township Police Department? Ask Officer Raff by emailing: ctnl@comcast.net or: rvastola@ctpd.org and add the words "Ask Officer Raff" in the subject line. "Love is such a powerful force. It's there for everyone to embrace - that kind of unconditional love for all of humankind. That is the kind of love that impels people to go into the community and try to change conditions for others, to take risks for what they believe in." ~ Corea Sco King
