C O M After a full year of interviewing people, Clinton Three Q decided to have some summertime fun and feature some of our local outstanding animals. Here are some of our local animal superstars and their summer activities! C3Q: Hello, Winston of Melick's Town Farm! You are well-known to visitors of the Melick's O l d w i c k l o c a t i o n , a n d a delight to visit! How old are you, and how long have you lived at Melicks? How did you come to live there? Winston: I am a twelve year-old pot belly pig, and have lived most of that time at Melick's Town Farm in Oldwick. I was raised as a wee piglet by a kind and loving family in Flemington who did not have room to keep me. C3Q: What is your favorite food? Winston: I love all sorts of things, especially if they are sweet, like blueberries, peaches, apples, and cider donuts! (I am not allowed donuts though, since I gain weight easily). Visitors to the farm can pick grass and dandelions for my snack. C3Q: What is your favorite activity? Winston: After eating, I really enjoy visiting with the children who come and visit me at the Oldwick Farm Market. I also love belly rubs and scratches from my co-workers at Melick's Town Farm. On hot days, I enjoy using my swimming pool to keep cool. C3Q: Thank you, Winston! Keep cool! We love to follow you on Instagram @winstonmtf C3Q: Hello, Blueberry of Mad Lavender Farm! You are well-known to both lavender-pickers and yogi- visitors, and a delight to visit! How old are you, and how long have you lived at Mad Lavender? How did you come to live there? Blueberry the Goat: I was born in May last year on a farm with too many goats. Adrienne and Don adopted me, and Cookie is my "step mom." She still had lots of milk and I had her all to myself. I am the only goat in my adopted herd with blue eyes so I'm named Blueberry. C3Q: What is your favorite food? Blueberry the Goat: I'm not too picky. Leaves. Mustard garlic. Your shoe laces. C3Q: What is your favorite activity? Blueberry the Goat: I am the star of Goat Yoga on Mad Lavender Farm. The yogis make a human bridge for me to jump up and walk on, and that's my favorite thing to do. Everybody laughs, and it makes me happy when everybody is laughing. Did you know that goats can read human expressions? I am also the only goat in my herd with horns. I wear tennis balls for goat yoga, so nobody gets hurt. C3Q: Thank you, Blueberry! We will definitely c o m e a n d v i s i t y o u t h i s s u m m e r ! h t t p s : / / madlavenderfarm.com/goat-yoga C3Q: Hello, Clancy! You are well-known to some Clinton Township Round Valley School students as Mrs Mooney's cat! How old are you, and how long have you lived at your house? How did you come to live there? C l a n c y : M e o w ! I a m a f i v e year-old orange male tabby, weighing in at a whopping f i f t e e n p o u n d s ! I w a s adopted as a kitten, along with my brother Murphy by the Mooney family in the Spring of 2017. I was found with my four littermates in the rain under a deck in Flemington. Lambertville Animal Welfare took us in to be adopted. The Mooney's adopted us because we were a bonded pair and we've been living a wonderful life together ever since. C3Q: What is your favorite food? Clancy: Well, as you can guess I'm not too picky about food. I really love chicken flavored wet food and my favorite treats are crunchy chicken morsels. I've perfected how to beg and cry for them when someone is in the kitchen. When I'm not being spoiled with treats, I settle for boring dry food. C3Q: What is your favorite activity? Clancy: My favorite activities are sleeping and finding crazy places to sit. I've been known to squeeze into some small spaces. Who needs a cat bed when there are more interesting places to be? Also, I am a big supporter of reading books and I encourage everyone to read this summer. Find a book that makes you laugh or read a book to learn about something new. Visit the North Branch of the Hunterdon County Library in Clinton to get some great books, and have a fun summer! C3Q: Well Clancy, thank you, and that plug at the end definitely shows that you've learned a lot from your owner! Happy Reading! C 3 Q : H e l l o , T u r t l e s o f P a t r i c k M c G h e r a n School Courtyard! You are famous among local elementary school children and teachers! How old are you and how long have you lived in the PMG Courtyard? Momma Turtle: I, myself, am quite old! There are a few of us here at the PMG C o u r t y a r d i n c l u d i n g m a n y babies! Our family has lived here for generations. C3Q: What is your favorite food? Momma Turtle: Our favorite foods are worms and bugs. We also love when Mrs. Malecki brings in lettuce and strawberries from her garden. C3Q: What is your favorite activity? Momma Turtle: Our most favorite activity is watching all the children come into the courtyard and try to find us! It is so much fun to see their smiles as they look so carefully for us. C3Q: Hope you are having a delightful summer vacation, turtles of PMG! See you in the Fall! C3Q: Hello, Gracie the horse, of Grayrock Farm Sanctuary! You are the 'Matriarch' of Greyrock Farm and the reason the sanctuary was started four years ago... to give you and others a good home. You are such a fine horse! Can you tell me about yourself? Gracie: I am twenty years old, and described as a 'gentle giant' at sixteen hands tall. I live with three other horses, three potbelly pigs, two goats, barn cats, ducks, roosters and chickens. One of those horses is my friend, blind pasture-mate Freckles, so I am her seeing-eye horse. C3Q: What do you like to eat? Gracie: I like to eat grass, cookies in the hay, carrots, apples, and watermelon. C 3 Q : W h a t a r e y o u r favorite summer activities? Gracie: I love to roll in the mud after being groomed! I also like to lick everyone who comes to visit! Speaking of visits, our next Greyrock N'Roll Festival is on October 22, 2022! C3Q: Thank you, Gracie! We will come visit this summer, and hope to attend the festival in October and give you a carrot! www.facebook. com/GrayrockFarmSanctuary C3Q: Hello, Goldfish! Quite honestly I was l e e r y a b o u t i n c l u d i n g y o u because of short-lived goldfish encounters of my past, but seeing you in person, you are outstanding! How old are you, and where do you live? Goldfish: Hello! We are approximately twenty years old, but possibly older than that! We used to be outside in a fish pond in Pittstown, but were brought inside to live after a move to Clinton Township with local resident Barbara, and now live in a thirty gallon tank, where we are very happy. We grew from tiny goldfish eggs in the pond, to our current size of about ten and eleven inches long. C3Q: What do you like to eat? Goldfish: We might be the most spoiled, well-cared for fish in the area! We eat quality pellet fish food, some vegetables, fruit, and lettuce, and sometimes our owner gives us a special treat like shrimp or bloodworms. We like to be fed three times a day, and every week, our owner changes half the water in the tank, vacuums our gravel, and cleans the filter and the glass and checks us every day to make sure we are healthy. And we are! C3Q: Fantastic! What are your summer activities? Goldfish: Well, we like to greet our owner when they come into the kitchen in the morning. We like to be kept busy, because out in the wild, we are always swimming around and looking for something. Other than eating and swimming around our tank, we take a nap behind a plant, laying on the gravel, and our owner turns off the light in the tank when we nap. Our owner says that we are just wonderful pets; she loves that we are a hardy fish and very intelligent, and can recognize different people who visit. Our owner Barbara says that we make wonderful pets, but that you have to take good care of goldfish, just like everything else, and if you take diligent care of goldfish, we can live a long time! C3Q: Wow! How motivational! Truly, animals bring such joy and learning into our lives! Thank you to all our interviewees and their humans! n Rachel Sprague, a resident of Clinton Township, has a degree in journalism from Rutgers. With her husband Russell, Rachel is raising two young children in the Clinton Township School District. She thinks that Clinton Township is a delightful place to live.
