C L I N T O N T O W N S H I P S C H O O L N E W S www.ctsdnj.org Hello Clinton Township School Community, It is summer break. It is a time many of us remember fondly from our youth. For some it was memories of camp, memories of time with family, the opportunity to earn money, or if you were an older sibling, it may be a time you were used as unpaid childcare (I have forgiven my parents). While we all have different memories of summer, one thing we may not have realized is how important the summer months are to a school district. The district encourages students to read daily and offers summer learning experiences for children as we are setting ourselves up for a successful school year. The summer break is a time for the district to plan, reflect, and focus on improvement. Summer break is also a time to get ready for change and growth. In the last Newsletter, we said farewell to many beloved staff members. While it is always bittersweet to lose a colleague, it is also exciting to add new people to the journey. As those in the school community know, the Clinton Township Middle School principal Judi Hammond is officially retiring in August. Judi, like our other retirees, was an integral part of the district. As a principal, she led the district through a lot of change. As we continue to evolve, we are also excited to welcome Christina Steffner a s o u r i n t e r i m p r i n c i p a l of CTMS. She is a lifelong educator who has worked as a teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent. Ms. Steffner's wisdom and experience will help set the stage for the next chapter of the middle school. Her expertise will help continue to move the district forward while creating new structures that will enhance our students' PreK-8 experiences. We are also excited to welcome new teachers, new special education leaders and new members of the curriculum department. Balancing new people and new ideas with the experience of those who have been part of the district creates a renewed sense of motivation. Motivation to ensure each and every student leaves this district ready for their next chapter, aware of their potential, and secure in who they are and who they can be. So while summer will continue to be, for many of our students, a chance to build memories and to grow, it will continue to be, for the district, a time to create new opportunities and plan for success. – Sincerely, Dr. Melissa Stager Superintendent, CTSD A MESSAGE FROM DR. On the left hand side under the heading, Recent News, links are listed for the assignments. What Parents Can Do: • Aim for twenty minutes a day and stress the importance of summer reading with your child • Make reading exciting; don't think of it as a chore • Create a reading list • Create a no TV or electronic game time during part of each day • Join a summer reading program at your local library • Keep a supply of reading materials around the house • Go to the library regularly • Ask your child questions about the books s/he is reading • Pick a favorite author or series and read all the books • Listen to books on tape while traveling • Model reading! Happy Reading!
