While the 2022-2023 school year may seem far away at this point, a great way to help children maintain an academic focus and stay ready for the upcoming school year is to spend time reading every day over the summer months. Whether it's a trip to the library or local bookstore, opportunities abound to find great books to keep reading every day! Please visit the CTSD website for information about summer reading! Families, please visit our CTSD website for information about our Summer Visitation Days in August! Goodbye and Good Luck to our Retirees! This time of year is bittersweet as we also say farewell and C L I N T O N T O W N S H I P S C H O O L N E W S www.ctsdnj.org CONGRATULATIONS to our retiring staff members. Ms. Lisanne Bartram, Ms. Sue Ehlert a retiree for both PMG and RVS, and Mrs. Joan Slagus have retired from CTSD after many years of dedication and service to our students and families. We wish them only the best as they begin the next chapter of their lives! We will miss them so much at PMG! However, you can't retire from being great, so we know they have many wonderful opportunities ahead! Round Valley School The end of each school year brings with it the chance to celebrate the contributions and achievements of those staff members who are retiring. This year RVS has three staff members who are retiring: Maureen Zappulla- Literacy Support Teacher, Susan Ehlert- Librarian at RVS and PMG, and Rita Russomano, Special Education Teacher. Together, they have served the students of CTSD for almost 60 years! We thank them for all of their contributions to the CTSD community. We will miss them all but wish each of them nothing but health, happiness and fun in all of their new endeavors! Looking to Make a Difference? Substitute Teach or Be a Substitute Nurse at CTSD! Hello Clinton Township School Community, Walking down the hall last week, I was able to have a conversation with a fourth grade student. The conversation went like this: Child: "Hello." Me: "Hello, what are you doing?" Child: "We are looking at how fractions exist in the real world." Me: "That sounds like fun! Are you excited about summer break?" Child: "Yes and no." Me: "Why?" Child: "Well, I like having the time off, but I really love school and learning with my friends." In most schools, most children count the days until summer break. This was not the case here. While the child I spoke with may have been an anomaly, I don't think it was so. Clinton Township School District is one of those special places that tends to the whole child. Children get academically challenged and get exposure to the arts, robotics, careers, leadership, and cooperative problem solving. All of these influences were on display in the last few weeks of our 2021-2022 school year. At the Patrick McGaheran School, there was a building-wide art show with framed art, ceramics, glow art, and student work in all the halls. At the Round Valley School, students participated in band and chorus concerts, and at the Clinton Township Middle School, students were recognized for published poetry, acting, and supporting differently abled peers. These events are just a sliver of the incredible learning that happens in our district on a daily basis. When we think about the future of our country, most would agree that we want bright, capable, well rounded, thoughtful individuals who are positive contributors to society. The staff also work to serve as models for kindness and continually show a willingness to adapt learning to help all students. When you think about all that Clinton Township School District offers, it is no wonder that the student was sad about the end of the school year. This summer, with our extended school year program, summer phonics support, and planning for September, we continue to offer students an experience that encourages participation and learning. Our educational community provides a wonderful environment to help kids realize their best self, and I feel fortunate to be a part of such a great foundational learning experience. – Sincerely, Dr. Melissa Stager A MESSAGE FROM DR.
