Girl Scout Service Unit 81 (SU 81) held their annual Court of Awards and
Bridging Ceremony at cTMS in early May. NHHS Seniors Emily Smith and
Mandi Greenhalgh received the Dedicated Girl Scout award for their
participation in scouts since kindergarten. Additionally, they were recognized
for receiving Girl Scouts' highest honor, the Gold Award, which is based
on national standards and represents a significant investment in time and creativity.
To earn her Gold Award, Emily Smith created properly-sized gowns for Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit babies at St. Luke's University Hospital and Mandi Greenhalgh
built free libraries at Bulls Island and Round Valley State Parks. Smith and
Greenhalgh were also awarded SU 81 scholarships. To be considered for a
scholarship, girls must be active members of Girl Scout SU 81 for the previous five
years and have earned their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. Winners are selected
based on essays they submit detailing their Girl Scout experience. The girls are both
members of troop 80081.
Nine girls from troop 80258 were recognized for earning their Silver Award
this year and fourteen from troop 80907 received their Bronze. Six girls
were selected for the Hoban Award, created in the memory of Jennifer Hoban
who was a dedicated Girl Scout leader in Clinton Township. Several troops attended
the Court of Awards to formally bridge to the next level of Girl Scouts. To find out
more, visit: https://su81website.wixsite.com/girlscouts.
