1 5 j a n u a r y 2 0 2 2 Ms. Kathy Collins - Child Study Team: A seasoned educator, Ms. Collins offers a wealth o f k n o w l e d g e and experience to her students, c o l l e a g u e s a n d p a r e n t s . W h e n one of her students is in need, Ms. Collins does not hesitate to do what is necessary to help that child meet success. Due to her can-do attitude, s h e i s a " g o t o " member of the CTMS staff, problem solver and collaborator. Her positive attitude and bright smile liven up every meeting and classroom. As a CTMS case manager, Ms. Collins forges strong relationships with all of the families she works with, putting their needs before her own. She often uses her own personal time to ensure student success both in and out of school. In doing so, she is able to maximize learning and social outcomes for all of her children thus making her a fantastic member of Clinton Township Middle School and the child study team. Relay For Life: The CTMS Students are planning our 12th annual CTMS Relay for Life! This is a FUN family FUNdraiser for the American Cancer Society, and everyone's invited! This year's event will take place on Friday, March 11 from 6:00-9:00 pm. Our school community has already raised over $375,000 in the fight against cancer, and you can be a part of it! Law Fair/Law Adventure: The CTMS students are serious about law, and we have five teams this year for the Law Fair/Law Adventure mock trial contest! The contest is sponsored by the New Jersey Bar Foundation, and our school has been participating for over 20 years. Our three teams from last year placed in the top three in the state for their grade levels! The students will submit their cases at the end of January, 2022. Round Valley School RVS Governor's Educators of the Year! Teacher of the Year: Judith Johnson has been part of the district since 1995. She currently teaches Grade 5 Math and Science on an In-Class Support Team. Mrs. Johnson is an exceptional educator and leader. She consistently refines her teaching to meet the needs of her students, utilizing the current best practices. She makes learning fun and engaging. Mrs. Johnson is the grade level team leader. She initiates grade level activities, helps her team with curriculum and lesson planning and mentors new teachers. Mrs. Johnson is an active member of the school community and has served on many committees. Mrs. Johnson lives in Greenwich Township with her husband and three children. Mrs. Johnson is very deserving of this special award and we are so honored to have her on our staff! Educational Services Professional of the Year: Deborah Seguine has been a Teaching Assistant in the district for 16 years. She currently works in our Autism Classroom. Mrs. Seguine embodies the qualities a school, child and parent would hope for in a teaching assistant. She is patient, kind, firm, fun and professional. She implements behavior plans, communicates well with all members of the team and offers ideas to improve student programming. Mrs. Seguine has recently became a licensed RBT. She goes above and beyond in her role and is so appreciated! We are so happy that Mrs. Seguine earned this recognition! Clinton Township Middle School CTMS Governor's Educators of the Year! Mrs. Terry Materna - 6th Grade ELA Teacher: Each year Mrs. Materna puts her dedication a n d e x p e r t i s e o n display by working tirelessly to provide innovative, engaging and student centered lessons. Her pedagogy always mirrors the latest trends and readily shares her discoveries with colleagues. Terry has an aptitude for finding new methods and platforms to engage all of her students and develops lessons that tap into different modalities of learning while at the same time providing academic choice. Mrs. Materna sets clear, rigorous and attainable expectations and offers up her own time to ensure student success. It is amazing to witness the level of accomplishment of her students. Furthermore, Mrs. Materna values social and emotional learning, which is demonstrated when she develops a rapport with each and every student. Her daily positive interactions with all students serves as a model for all to witness. She creates an environment that fosters independence, acceptance, and leadership. Each year, the first few days of school for the sixth graders can be overwhelming to say the least. Mrs. Materna quickly identifies students who may be struggling or feeling anxious. She immediately develops ways to engage them so that they experience success thus creating a seamless transition to middle school for her students. With a children first approach, Mrs. Materna is an incredible educator, role model, and collaborator.
