Serving hungry residents of northern Hunterdon County Dear Clinton Township Newsletter Readers, I would like to use this opportunity to thank the community for their generous donations to both our food pantry and thrift shop. I want to applaud those who have been so kind as to help me spread the word as to how and when we accept donations. Recently we have had many unkind encounters at our location. We have had people leave unusable/unsellable items, household garbage and we have even had theft. I purchased most recently a very clear barrier sign to discourage people from leaving items when we are closed. That barrier sign was stolen. I have installed cameras hoping they would serve as a deterrent. I want to be very clear, we are very appreciative to our community for their generosity. I am disheartened at what our volunteers must endure because of persons who are not following our rules. If anything is left outside, it is automatically discarded into the trash. We incur a cost when this happens. We cannot take things into the shop when they have been weathered or even worse in the summer they may have insects. Our thrift shop's mission is to serve the pantry. We sell these items in order to offset the costs associated with operating our pantry. All items donated are intended to be sold. They are not to be given to clients. The items we shelve are in excellent condition. Everything else is discarded. Please use your best judgement when donating items to our shop. Thank you for your continued support of your local food pantry. – Jennifer Tavormina, Executive Director About the Open Cupboard Food Pantry: The Open Cupboard Food Pantry, Inc., is a private nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency. We believe our community has a responsibility to address the food needs of those who cannot afford to feed themselves and their families. Although less visible than in urban areas, the need in Hunterdon County is significant. Staffed entirely by volunteers, Open Cupboard Food Pantry in Clinton is funded by donations of food and money, and by proceeds of our in-house Thrift Shop, which accepts and sells donated clothing and household items. We also gratefully welcome donations of your time and talents as volunteers. Find out more at: www.OpenCupboardFoodPantry.org. "Listen!
