Volunteer opportunities are available in a wide array of areas, including childcare, youth sports classes and leagues and special events. "The summer is a great time for teens, in particular, to experience the rewards of giving back! Last year nearly 40 teen volunteers dedicated time in our various programs," said Jenn Attridge, Director of Mission Advancement. The HC YMCA appreciates the assistance of more than 425 volunteers a year. With two main facilities and programs at several additional sites, the Y offers a variety of options that would fit anyone's schedule. One stat that's more important than any other in the real estate world is absorption rates. Absorption rates are determined by the number of months needed to sell off all the current inventory on the market based on the current rate in which homes are selling. History's proven that between 5 and 7 months supply, the market is even. Above 7 months supply, we are in a "Buyer's Market" with downward pressure on the price–there's a high supply and a low demand. Below 5 months supply, we are in a "Seller's Market"–there's a high demand and a low supply. Local agent Vincent J. Costa III is a numbers guru who tracks these stats on a daily basis and offers up to the minute information for free at his website FreeHousePriceReport. com. To find out what the market conditions are in your neighborhood simply go to FreeHousePriceReport.com. This is a free service with no obligations. J u l y Hair's to H e l p i n g 1 , 6 0 0 HC S t u d e n t s ! According to ACNJ (Advocates for Children of NJ) the number of children living in poverty increased by 117%, from approximately 700 children to 1,522 from 2007-2011 in Hunterdon County. In order to help these county families stretch their dollars, United Way of Hunterdon County created Tools 4 School, a program that provides students in need with the necessary basic tools so that they are ready to learn and equipped to achieve greater educational success. This year our goal is to provide 1,600 basic school supply kits to 1,600 Hunterdon County students in need. In August, United Way of Hunterdon County is partnering with local Hunterdon County hair salons to run "A Cut-4-the-Community" fundraiser to support the Tools 4 School program. This fundraiser will run August 5-11 and allocates $1 per haircut as a donation. Many of the participating salons are also collecting basic school supplies in addition to making monetary donations. Come out and support your local communities by getting your end of summer cut at a participating salon or barber shop. All proceeds—100%—stay right here in Hunterdon County. Another Tools 4 School fundraiser to participate in is our Kids Cut-AThon! This Cut-A-Thon exclusively for kids will be taking place on August 19 at 95 Main St. Flemington (former Mikasa Building). There will be local stylists donating their time to give kids a haircut just in time for school for a donation amount of your choice! More detailed information can be found on our website www.uwhunterdon.org and will be updated as the event approaches. For information on our Tools 4 School program and our fundraisers, please visit www.uwhunterdon.org or call Amy Andersen, Volunteer Engagement Manager, at 908.782.3414 x24. A list of participating salons/barbers and needed school supplies can be found on United Way of Hunterdon County's website www.uwhunterdon.org. United Way is working to advance the common good by focusing on income, health and education. These are the building blocks for a good life - a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health. Our goal is to invest in improving lives and conditions in Hunterdon County by creating long-lasting changes that prevent problems from happening in the first place. R u b b e r D u c k y R ac e and Sprintin' Clinton The Clinton Sunrise Rotary is pleased to announce the continuance of two Clinton traditions: the 24th Annual Rubber Ducky Race and the 33rd Annual Sprintin' Clinton, a 5K race and 1 mile fun run/walk. Both events are scheduled for Sunday, July 14. The race is run in the south branch of the Raritan River beginning near the Hunterdon Art Museum, over the falls, under the famed Clinton bridge and downstream a few hundred yards. The race start is at 2:00 pm. Sponsor a duck for $10 and have the opportunity to win one of several great prizes. First prize is a 4 day, 3 night Walt Disney World Package for two (includes air for 2, hotel, & park passes) or a trip of equivalent value. Proceeds from this event benefit the American Cancer Society and the Cancer Support Community CNJ. In the evening, Sprintin' Clinton again draws participants and spectators of all ages. Event begins with a one mile fun run and culminates with the traditional 5k race. Race pre-entry fees are $12 for the Fun Run and $25 for the 5K. There are various sponsorship levels ranging from $100 for a Water Sponsor to $2,500 for a 5K or Family Fun Run Sponsor. Funds raised help to support these projects and this year will also be used to purchase outdoor exercise equipment for a Fit Trail that Clinton Sunrise Rotary plans to donate to the Town of Clinton.
