C O M North Hunterdon Thrift Shop stepped into spring with its big Soles4Souls Mission, starting March 1, with the goal of collecting 5,000 pairs of shoes by April 30 to help others in less-developed countries. The nonprofit shop, at 51 County Road 635 (Charlestown Road) in Hampton, invites the community to help reach its mission goal by donating shoes of all kinds, conditions and sizes, and for any season. Donated shoes can be dropped off at the shop during shop hours, after calling 908-735- 0177, or they can be dropped off at Clinton United Methodist Church office at 10 Halstead Street in Clinton. If the office is closed, they can be left on the porch by the ramp door. The shop is run by the church and all proceeds support the church's missions and ministries. The shoes, in turn, will be donated to the shop's mission partner, Soles4Souls, a nonprofit, international micro-enterprise program, organized in this area by Cokesbury United Methodist Church. S4S distributes shoes and clothing around the world to create sustainable jobs and provide relief to those in need. Families in the program can refurbish and sell the donated shoes to help pay for food, housing and education. The sale of one pair of shoes can pay for five meals for a family in Haiti. During April, the shop is also seeking donations of gear for North Hunterdon and Voorhees High Schools and for other local high schools, and donations of college gear, as well. The shop is looking for donations of clean, good-quality spring and summer clothing and home goods in a contact-free process, and by appointment only by calling the shop at: 908.735.0177. For details of this process, visit the shop's Facebook page or its website at: sentforothers.org. Everyone at the shop must wear face masks and follow safety protocols. Families can have fun in a safe setting, shopping and preparing for Mom's big day at the shop's Mother's Day Extravaganza on Saturday, May 1 from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm! The kid-friendly event will feature an outside tent sale with everything costing $2 or less, an indoor $12 Bag Sale, and a Buy 1, Get 1 Free Sale in the front room downstairs. There will be free snacks and the kids' activities, held upstairs, will only allow four children at a time at each station. Kids can make gifts and cards and get photos taken with their moms. Shop hours are Monday, 8:30 am to noon, Wednesday, 8:30 am to noon and 3:00 to 6:00 pm, and Saturday, 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. For more information, call 908.735.0177, email: danielle@sentforothers.org or visit the shop on Facebook or follow us on Instagram at: #northhunterdonthrift. Court Appointed Special Advocates of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties (CASA SHaW) recruit, screen, train and supervise community volunteers to act as advocates in court for children living in foster care. CASA volunteers are appointed by a family court judge to discover the best possible outcome for an abused or neglected child's future as well as make recommendations that support the child's current needs. Volunteers receive support and supervision from a trained social worker throughout the duration of their cases.
