Our mathematicians are extending their knowledge of place value concepts to include decimals by comparing and rounding. These magnificent students also explored the basics of being a historian before they explore the ancient cultures of the world. They have discussed bias as well as primary and secondary sources, learning about the basics of government, and map skills. Each student created a "Dream Bedroom" complete with a compass rose, map key and directions to help someone find their favorite bedroom attribute. Mrs. Frey and Mr. Ruttenberg will be working on managing stressful situations and anxious feelings in December and January. We will be going into classrooms to work with our third and fourth graders on these topics. Everyone at Round Valley Elementary School wishes our community a Happy New Year! ClintonTownship Middle School CTMS Library News The CTMS Virtual Book Club is up and running! Our featured book is "Wishtree" by Katherine Applegate. The book club is facilitated via Google Classroom where students can view the book presentation as well as listen to a recording of chapters 1-6. In the Clinton Township Middle School, eighth graders are learning about the Holocaust while reading Night by Elie Wiesel in Language Arts. They are learning about our Constitution in Social Studies, and they are learning about thermal energy in science. But this year our students have gone beyond the textbooks and typical academic studies to learn some life skills that may otherwise have taken much longer to develop. The hybrid model has helped students to become more organized with their assignments and their time management. They are becoming more skilled at working with technology. The independence they are learning should help them to be better prepared for their next transition - to the high school! The CTMS Student Council is sponsoring a district wide "Purrfect Pet Photo Contest" for the month of January. Students and staff are encouraged to send in a photo of their pet (one photo per pet) to compete in the categories of Cutest, Funniest, Most Exotic, Most Creative and Most Lovable. All photos will be posted and students will vote for their favorites. Patrick McGaheran School Kindgarten Rnd-Up! Kindergarten Round-Up is now occurring for Patrick McGaheran School. We continue to study weather patterns, extreme weather, and we all enjoyed some light December snowfall, whether we were working in school or learning remotely. Next we will switch gears and begin our Social Studies unit on Early Explorers. Our readers will soon wrap up their Mystery Unit and begin the new year learning the techniques of Informational Writing. In fourth grade, the student scientists are learning all about the structure and function of plants and animals by learning all about their internal and external structures and what their jobs are. To culminate this unit, the students will research all about bees and the important role they play in the world and what specialized body parts they have to help them with this. In Math, we just wrapped up our unit on double digit multiplication where students learned to multiply in different ways. We are now learning about division, how to estimate quotients, and how to interpret remainders. In Language Arts, we are studying allusions in Greek Mythology while comparing and contrasting different versions of Greek Myths. Students also performed in the reader's theater of a few of their favorite Greek Myth stories. During Social Studies, students have been learning about immigration to the United States.
