the "Buzz" About? RVS a n d CTMS I n t r o d u c e E x c i t i n g N e w E d u c at i o n a l T o o l ! W h at ' s How do you make learning fun and memorable for students? Just ask the teachers at Round Valley School (RVS) and the Clinton Township Middle School (CTMS). Thanks to a grant from the Clinton Township Foundation for Educational Excellence, an exciting, interactive buzzer system was recently introduced at both schools... and the students are literally buzzing about it! "The buzzer system provides a unique way to review academic material and enhance teaching in the classrooms," said Renee Sielaff, enrichment teacher, Round Valley School. "We use the system in so many ways. For example, I've used it for Wordmasters review rounds and I've found that the students' scores have dramatically improved! Plus the students love it." In addition to in-classroom use at RVS and CTMS, the buzzer system is used for outside competitions (such as Knowledge Masters) and with Hunterdon County Enrichment Consortium activities. The system is comprised of eight hand buzzers (four per team) and a lighting system that indicates the first contestant to "buzz in." "We are particularly fond of this educational tool, as it provides a unique way to enhance critical thinking, problem-solving skills and academic teamwork for students," said Cindy Miceli, chairperson, Clinton Township Foundation for Educational Excellence. "And the systems can be used with students for years to come." The Foundation aims to enhance the quality of education and enrichment opportunities for the 1,600+ students in the Clinton Township school district. Hunterdon Healthcare is among an elite group of hospitals to achieve Magnet recognition–only about 6% of all health care organizations in the US has achieved Magnet status. Nurses and staff worked diligently to prepare a more than 2,000 page document that provided evidence of excellence nursing practices. Upon review and an excellent rating, the American Nurses Credentialing Center visited Hunterdon Medical Center for three days to validate the document is lived "We are so proud of out and practiced throughout Hunterdon Healthcare System. this accomplishment. It provides verification of the exceptional care our nurses provide our community." – Patricia Steingall, "Achieving Magnet status means that Hunterdon Healthcare has created an environment that supports nursing practice and focuses on professional autonomy, decision making at the bedside, nursing involvement in the nursing work environment, professional RN, Chief Nursing Officer and education, career development and Vice President Patient Care Services nursing leadership," explained Patricia Hunterdon Medical Center Steingall, RN, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services at HMC. Steingall added, "The high quality of nursing care required to earn Magnet status has been associated with direct benefits to patients including decreased length of stay, decreased risk of falls, reduced medication errors and lower infection rates.
