F r o M N e x t S t e p C o l l e g e a d V i s i n g High School Juniors: Here is what you should have done by mid-December: • Take the PSAT. • Stay on track with your classes and grades. • Take a diagnostic ACT and use a specific PSAT/ACT comparison chart to help you decide/map out your testing plan for 2021. • Make a list of potential colleges you would like to attend. • Discuss careers, and also the majors which can lead you to those careers. • Gather college information: Attend virtual college fairs and speak to representatives from colleges (either online or through your school). • Begin planning campus visits (some are allowing in person visit, and some even have self guided drive-through maps and apps for you!) • Continue involvement in extracurricular and volunteer activities and seek leadership roles. • Continue building relationships with your teachers, as your 11th grade teachers are the ones from whom you will most likely request letters of recommendation. Winter is here, so if your son or daughter hasn't done all the above and/or if your family would simply like a college advising expert to guide you through the process, please call me. I can catch up your Junior if needed and I am taking clients from the class of 2022 until January 2021. Sophomores are welcome to jump on-board now and, I promise, you will be well ahead of your peers and confident with your decisions you make for your future! I work with the student holistically. Part expert, part cheerleader, I offer assistance and opinions from start to end. Sign up for a consult today. You can book directly online at: www.NextStepAdvising.com or call me, Nicole Smith, M.Ed. at: 908.642.8509. NEED OR WANT EXTRA COPIES OF CTNL? I live in Beaver Brook! s a n t a l e t t e r s Calling all who are writing to Santa this year to get them in as soon as possible! For over 20 years the letters dropped in the Big Red Mailbox located in front of the Towne Restaurant in Clinton have been answered by the Newcomers Club. The box will be placed outside the restaurant the week of November 23, so be sure to have your child send their letter. The box will be taken in around Thursday, December 17. The elves are eager to answer every letter that is sent so please don't forget to put your return address and the letter is also sent back as a memory. The elves get so sad when they can't send a letter to a child because there is no return address. Enjoy your Holidays! – Love, Santa and the Elves "Today a new sun rises for me; everything lives, everything is animated, everything seems to speak to me of my passion, everything invites me to cherish it." ~Anne De Lencios P a r t n e r s h i P F o r h e a l t h M o n t h l y s t r e s s r e d u C t i o n t i P s The holiday season can be stressful even in usual times, so in this year, you may find yourself feeling more anxious or depressed, especially if your holiday plans will look different than in the past. There are many things you can do to help and may even find you enjoy this time of year more than you thought you would. • Start by acknowledging your feelings, however they come, and keep open communication between all parties involved. • Learn to say "no" if you need to, whether it's to keep you feeling safe or less overwhelmed by overcommitment, your friends and family will understand. • Plan ahead with the knowledge you may need to be flexible because COVID-19 makes things less predictable, but that doesn't mean all changes will be for the worse. • Traditions have always changed as families change and grow; this year may be an opportunity to start a new tradition. • Use technology to virtually connect with family and friends even if you can't be in the same space as them. • Make time for yourself, even if you have to schedule it into your day. • Find something you like to do that soothes you and restores your inner calm. The holidays may be different this year but hopefully you will find times of peace and joy in the coming days.
