We're all spending more time on our computers and devices, whether for work or school or socially, and all of this combined screen time is known to lead to increases in stress levels. Research has shown* that spending time outdoors is linked to improvements in mood and emotional well-being although exactly why is not yet known. The feeling of being connected to nature appears to improve people's overall feelings of happiness and contentment, perhaps by helping us to think about our place in the larger world. Often being outside also involves exercise which has also been shown to decrease stress and improve mental health. Whether it be raking leaves, walking around the neighborhood or going on a hike on one of Hunterdon County's many trails, make it a point to get outside this month! * www.apa.org/monitor/2020/04/nurtured-nature Victor A. You should never file a personal injury lawsuit or settle your claim with an insurance company without first consulting an experienced attorney. Here are two important questions that may help you choose the right attorney: 1). Are you a Certified Civil Trial Attorney? "Certified civil trial attorney" is a designation granted by the New Jersey Supreme Court to attorneys who demonstrate sufficient levels of experience, education, knowledge, and skill in trial practice. Only attorneys certified* by the New Jersey Supreme Court are entitled to use the designation "Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney" after having met the following criteria as set by the Board on Attorney Certification: • been a member in good standing with the NJ Bar for at least five years • fulfilled ongoing continuing legal education requirements • demonstrated substantial involvement in preparation of litigated matters • demonstrated an unblemished reputation among other attorneys and judges familiar with their work • passed a written exam in civil trial law *According to the most recent available statistics, only about 2% of active New Jersey attorneys are certified. 2). Have you handled similar cases and what is your success rate at trial? The more successful case outcomes a lawyer has, the better it is for the client. Insurance companies who defend personal injury cases know the lawyers in your area who go into court to successfully try cases and those who do not, and they use that information to evaluate their risk. A successful personal injury attorney will prepare every case for a jury trial. When you enter settlement negotiations armed with as much evidence as possible backed with the representation of an experienced, successful trial attorney, you will ensure that you receive the fairest settlement possible. If your case does go to trial, you want to make sure your attorney has experience and a winning record. After a serious accident, concentrate your focus on healing and let an experienced personal injury attorney handle the rest. – Victor Rotolo "Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities.
