C O M Excitement was high in downtown Clinton as parents, siblings, local businesses and people from surrounding towns showed up to celebrate North Hunterdon High School's seniors on the morning of June 12. On the day that would have been the class of 2020's traditional graduation ceremony on NHHS's Singley Field, Clinton's sidewalks and street corners – as well as numerous other spots throughout the parade route – were instead packed with people cheering, waving, ringing cow bells and holding congratulatory signs as seniors drove in a jubilant car parade through Main Street and onto North Hunterdon High School. Teachers and administrators were waiting for seniors at the high school, cheering them on as they drove t h r o u g h c a m p u s f o r the last time. A local business even held a car decorating contest for the participating vehicles. During this unprecedented time in our country and world, it was truly a special moment. Starting at 10:30 am, fire trucks, police cars and ambulances/EMS from Clinton, Clinton Township/Annandale, Lebanon, Quakertown and Pattenburg kicked off the parade, escorting the seniors through the three-mile parade route. With nearly all wearing their caps and gowns, graduates piled into cars and trucks elaborately decorated with balloons, streamers and posters. They leaned out windows and sunroofs of honking cars and took pictures of the crowds cheering them on. "We have missed out on so many traditional senior year activities, but honestly we could not have asked for a better g r a d u a t i o n d a y , " s a i d NHHS class president Zoe Walz. "We are so grateful to the parents, mayors, community a n d s c h o o l f o r coming together to o r g a n i z e t h i s c a r parade to celebrate a n d r e c o g n i z e our senior class… it should become a n e w t r a d i t i o n f o r graduates moving forward!" After the car parade, the official NHHS graduation ceremony was posted online so graduates could watch it with families, friends and in other special ways. NHHS alum and Internet personality Gary Vaynerchuk ("Gary Vee") even sent a personal six-minute message to seniors. Congratulations again to the NHHS class of 2020! ATTENTION: The Federal and State primary elections scheduled for June 2, 2020, shall be postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 2020. Regretfully, Mayor John Higgins has taken a temporary leave of absence due to illness. During this period of time, anticipated to last between twelve and sixteen weeks, Council President Brian Mullay will serve as the Acting Mayor. – Carla Conner, RMC, CMR, Township Clerk N o r t h h u N t e r d o N S e N i o r S d r i v e i N t o t h e i r F u t u r e !
