The LGBTQ Support & Social Group USA for youth teens young adults,
meets every first Thursday of the month from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm at the North
Branch County Library, 65 Halstead Street, Clinton, NJ 08809 in two separate
rooms, one for kids and one for adults. This group is open to all in the LGBTQ
community – and they are seeking volunteers, advocates and supporters!
This LGBTQ group offers high school seniors who are in the LGBTQ
community a (one time) $500 scholarship to an entering college freshman this fall.
The check will be made out to the college with the winning student's name. A letter
will be included explaining the essay contest and scholarship award. Applicants must
submit their essay of no less than 1,000 words on or before the first Thursday in
August (you may feel free to submit it at our regularly scheduled meeting in Clinton
that month). The winner will be announced at our September meeting. If you are
in our support group you must attend meetings and help out at our fundraisers.
The LGBTQ group would like to thank the two stores that allow them
to hold a poetry night: Grounded For Life Cafe in Clinton and Natural
Beauty by Jamie Salon and Spa in Flemington. LGBTQ poetry night is open
to the community, and once the pandemic ends they will resume their poetry night
at these two lovely retail businesses! . The LGBTQ has been receiving emails from
residents interested in when they're reopening Poetry Night – Their first priority
is to keep everybody safe. See: www.LGBTQSupportandSocialGroupUSA.
com for updated information.
The LGBTQ Tricky Tray, originally scheduled for May 15, was cancelled due
to the COVID-19 crisis. Updated information can be found on the website.
Matthew Loscialo started the GLBT in 2003 and the group become
a non-profit in 2013. Matthew, a local resident who lives with Asperger's
Syndrome, achieved his Bachelor's of Business, Magna Cum Laude from
Fairleigh Dickinson University (2014) and is currently is working as a landscape
photographer.
Despite having been bullied and teased in school as a young man,
Matthew survived and wants to let young people who feel marginalized know
that they too will survive, and that they should reach out to local support groups
and supportive adults around them. Matthew speaks to various support groups
throughout the year.
