The meeting is open to the public and refreshments will be served. Seating is limited and available on a first come first served basis. Born and raised in Peapack-Gladstone, Thomson received his undergraduate degree at Drew University; took architecture/urban planning courses at Harvard University; was a David Rockefeller Fellow, a program sponsored by the New York City Partnership; co-authored with the late Jack Turpin the two volume work, "New Jersey Country Houses: Somerset County". He writes extensively about history. Thomson's presentation will describe Tyvan Hill, the site of the 20th "Mansion in May Designer Showhouse and Gardens" presented by the Women's Association for Morristown Medical Center (WAMMC). The proceeds benefit the Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute Expansion. Located in New Vernon, the House will be open to the public daily May 1-31, at 10:00 am with the last ticket sold at 3:00 pm. Tickets are $40 beginning April 1-30; $50 thereafter. Fifty designers and landscape architects will transform this gracious 1920's Country Estate into a place of its former glory. The house was designed by the New York architectural firm of Peabody, Wilson & Brown for John Wesley Castles, Jr. and his wife Dorothea Bradford Smith between 1928 and 29. Castles was a New York lawyer and an investment banker who served in the US Army in both World War I and World War II; his wife was a daughter of former Vermont Governor Edward Curtis Smith and granddaughter of J. Gregory Smith, Governor of Vermont during the Civil War. Founded in March 1893 to provide financial support to Morristown Medical Center, part of the Atlantic Health System, WAMMC helps enable the hospital to respond to changing community health care needs. A volunteer base of over 400 members hosts many fundraising events, anchored by the flagship event, Mansion in May Designer Showhouse and Gardens, open to the public every two to three years. It operates the hospital's gift s h o p s , T h e B a r g a i n B o x T h r i f t B o u t i q u e , and WAMMC Network TV. Hal Benz, a volunteer presenter for the non-profit Climate Reality Project offers an update on the current status of climate crisis, and what can still be done to turn things around. This one-hour presentation addresses the three most critical questions facing the long term viability of our planet: 1) MUST we change? 2) CAN we change? And 3) WILL we change." Please join us April 1 (Wed) at the North County Branch Library in Clinton at 7:00 pm. The program, presented by the Hunterdon Warren Group of the Sierra Club is free and open to the public.
