Hunterdon Medical Center depends heavily on regular volunteer blood donors to maintain an adequate and safe blood supply. "Giving blood is the most generous act of kindness that one human being can do for another. When you give blood, you save lives. Blood is used for accident victims, newborn babies and their mothers who need a transfusion, people undergoing surgery, patients receiving treatment for cancer and other diseases," states Cathy Conroy, Blood Donor Recruiter at Hunterdon Medical Center. To be eligible to donate blood a person must be at least 17 years of age, be in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. To schedule an appointment or for more information, call Hunterdon Medical Center at: 908.788.6405. m a n e s t r e a m ' s s p r i n g e v e n t s a n d v o l u n t e e r o p p o r t u n i t i e s Mane Stream (equine-assisted activities and therapy services) invites you to support the mission in several ways. Each opportunity has the ability to make a difference. Whether you are doing a little spring cleaning, looking for volunteer opportunities or registering kids for camp, Mane Stream has it all. • Spring Tack Sale: Scheduled for Saturday, April 4 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. We're now seeking donations of new and gently used tack or horse related items. Contact: jen@manestreamnj.org for additional information or to set up a pickup. • Spring Sneaker & Shoe Drive: Donate new and gently used sneakers, cleats, and shoes! Keep shoes out of landfills and provide affordable footwear to people in developing nations. By cleaning your closets and donating your old shoes, you are helping to raise much-needed funds to help pay for our farrier costs. Or start a shoe drive at your school, library, or gym! Contact louisa@manestreamnj.org to get started. Volunteer Orientation and Training Sessions: Start the year off right and make a commitment to volunteer at Mane Stream. RSVP to: volunteer@ manestreamnj.org for one of our upcoming sessions: 2/4 from 6:30 - 9:00 pm, 3/7 from 3:00 - 5:30 pm, and 4/15 from 6:30 - 9:00 pm. Summer Camp for ALL Abilities: Registration is now open for this inclusive summer day camp for children with special needs, their siblings, and their typically developing peers. Three of the nine weeks are set aside for the horse-crazy kid that just can't get enough of horses in his/her life! $25 Discount if you register before 4/30. PerformCare Approved. Register online at www.ManeStreamNJ.org About Mane Stream: Mane Stream is a 501c3 non-profit registered charitable organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals with physical, developmental, emotional and medical challenges through a diverse program of equine-assisted activities, therapy services and educational initiatives. Court Appointed Special Advocates of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties (CASA SHaW) recruit, screen, train and supervise community volunteers to act as advocates in court for children living in foster care. CASA volunteers are appointed by a family court judge to discover the best possible outcome for an abused or neglected child's future as well as make recommendations that support the child's current needs. Volunteers receive support and supervision from a trained social worker throughout the duration of their cases. To find out more, visit: www.casashaw.org, call 908.689.5515, or email: info@casashaw.org.
