Round Valley School Global School Play Day at RVS: February 5 marked Round Valley School's first year of participation in the Global School Play Day. This annual global event began in 2015 as a way for students to engage in unstructured play. This year, 563,283 students in 75 nations participated! The day encourages students to engage in unstructured play with peers. Throughout the day at RVS students could be seen playing games, working on puzzles, building with blocks and magnets, building forts, playing family and more! Student and staff feedback was positive. Some students asked if they could have a day like this every month! Grade Level News Grade 3: In science, 3rd grade is learning about Force and Motion. This unit allows students to investigate magnets and explore pushing and pulling. Later in this unit, students will be designing cars and test driving these cars. One of the goals will be to identify how their design creates less friction and more speed! A right of passage for all 3rd graders is to begin multiplication and division. 3rd graders have been involved in many hands-on activities to help foster a stronger understanding. Also, we are involved in a character study unit in Language Arts. Readers are identifying the traits of characters and how these traits often change depending on situations. Grade 4: In Social Studies, students will participate in a project- based learning (PBL) unit where they will be learning about the five regions of the United States. They will utilize researching skills, review map skills, and create a presentation to recommend places of interest located in their chosen region. Some points of interest will include geographic features and/or historical landmarks. Grade 5: In January, our fifth-grade historians were treated to a presentation by archeologist TJ Geise, a graduate of Clinton Township School District. Mr. Geise works in the fields of both archaeology and geology. During his presentation, Mr. Geise shared his expertise while students were able to ask questions about artifacts uncovered by archeologists. Mr. Giese shared replicas of artifacts he has discovered, as well as the ins and outs of what happens on an archeological dig. Students dug deeper by discussing the impact this study has on life as we know it today. Teachers were happy to hear that Mr. Giese was impressed with the knowledge our fifth graders had from their classroom studies on early life. Students were excited and inspired when realizing that this is a profession they too could pursue in the future. Thank you Mr. Giese for coming back to your old stomping grounds to share your knowledge and expertise with the next generation of Clinton Township graduates! Clinton Township Middle School CTMS Drama Club is proud to present Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella (G2K edition)! Please join us for performances on March 12 and 13 at 7:00 and March 14 at 2:00! Tickets can be purchased at the door and online. To purchase tickets online, please go to https://ctsd.tix.com." First semester 8th Grade Artists worked hard to create realistic looking food out of clay. They researched different types of food and came up with sketches, then they used the score, slip and seal method to attach two pieces of clay. After letting the creations dry, the pieces were fired in the kiln. Students later glazed their food to look shiny and delicious! Their work was displayed in the CTMS Library. Our 3rd annual TREP$ Marketplace will be held on Wednesday, April 8 from 6:00-8:00 pm in the CTMS gymnasium. This is a great program for student entrepreneurs, who each have started their own business! You are invited to come shopping and meet these young entrepreneurs! SAVE THE DATE FOR Marketplace Over 50 student businesses to visit! Jewelry, Garden Art, Fashion, Pet Supplies, Home Decor and more! Wednesday, April 8 6-8 pm at the Clinton Township Middle School
