We must be having a great time in the Clinton Township School District because it is already January! The staff and students have had a busy couple of months. Autumn flew by and snowflakes fell at the beginning of December. We even had one snow day! Along with the many things our students are learning and participating in, the close of 2019 was marked by several musical concerts featuring the talents of our students in both choral and instrumental music. The wonderful performances were a terrific way to start the holiday season. As we usher in 2020, we look forward to a New Year and new opportunities for all. The Clinton Township School District wishes everyone a happy and healthy New Year! Thank you, Dr. Michele Cone, Superintendent of Schools A L e t t e r f r o m Michele Cone, Superintendent of Schools Dear Clinton Township Community Members: I N O U R S C H O O L S : Spruce Run School Spruce Run School's Preschool is bursting with energetic preschoolers preparing for the cold weather and joys of the winter season. See what their teachers are saying... The holiday season has come up very quickly and our preschool classroom is enjoying every bit of it! The preschoolers are learning about all the different holidays that occur in the month of December through songs, books, videos, crafts, cooking and much more. We continue to learn about the change in weather and the new season of Winter. The preschoolers are excited for a holiday movie that they will be watching with the other preschool classes. The children will all wear their favorite pajamas and eat popcorn and drink hot cocoa. Also we are ecstatic for our Holiday Celebration party hosted by the PTA! Another class has been reading, doing art and retelling activities related to the story, Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? They are making "arctic" slime and using one-to-one correspondence to feed goldfish to penguins. In preparation for the winter holiday, they are making snowflake ornaments to decorate at school and home and make playdough gingerbread people to touch, smell and decorate. Round Valley School FIFTH GRADE: The fifth grade was treated to an amazing experience in November. Fifth graders went on a trip to see The Diary of Anne Frank at Raritan Valley Community College! Students not only were treated to a modern production of The Diary of Anne Frank, but were privileged to hear Margit Feldman, a survivor of Bergen- Belsen Concentration Camp, speak. Students were truly moved by her stories and answers to the questions they were able to ask. When the classes returned to school, we spoke about details from the play and curiosities they had about this period of history. We will be focusing on this area of history and digging deeper into WWII in our historical fiction unit later this year. FOURTH GRADE: Students in fourth grade are beginning our structures and functions unit where they will learn about internal and external structures of plants and animals. For the final project, we will research all about honey bees. We will relate this to what is going on in the world by discussing the important role that honey bees play in pollination and how many crops are affected by this. THIRD GRADE: The third grade team would like to extend a warm thank you to all of the families who took the time to meet with us during Parent Teacher Conferences. Our time was well spent, sharing information and setting goals for the remainder of the school year. Working together is the very best way to enhance your children's education and academic success. Our third grade detectives are enjoying our fictional unit on reading Mysteries. The students are looking for clues, motives and creating suspect lists. Each class is solving the mystery The Absent Author, by Ron Roy together and then reading a mystery of their
