I also meet parents who tell me they wish they had known me, or someone like me, when their child was going through the admissions process. Below are some highlights from The Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), of which I am a member, which maintains the highest of standards for those in my profession. State of the Profession 2018, presented by the CEO of IECA, Mark Sklarow, discusses the trends in Independent Educational Consulting (College Advisors). 1. IEC growth is not slowing down. 2. Students at all levels are more complicated (increased pressure to apply Early Decision and/or Early Application, increased identification of depression, anxiety and other emotional disabilities). 3. Academic Decisions are less predictable. 4. Changes to the way admissions decisions are being made (renewed interest in character measure, unclear role of 'demonstrated interest', test optional schools.) 5. INFORMATION OVERLOAD (too much, too often, constant change) 6. Rates are continuing to climb: 2017 average hourly fee: $200. (range: $85-350), Comprehensive Package Fee for counselors with more than 10 years of experience: $5200 average. $4800 in Mid-Atlantic Regional Average, $5400 New England Regional Average. I invite you and your family to sign up for a consult on my website to learn more. The average Public School Student receives 38 minutes of personal college counseling over four years. This is not adequate. The average student in my comprehensive plan receives 20 hours of personal college counseling. My goal is to empower, educate and guide students to find their best fit, both emotionally, educationally and financially. Please visit my website at: www.NextStepAdvising.com to learn more and book an appointment online. I'm accepting new Junior clients until January 2020, and will then begin enrolling Sophomores. My office is conveniently located at 37 Main Street in Clinton with reserved parking in rear of building. I look forward to helping you with your NEXT STEP! – Nicole Smith, Next Step Advising
