No matter what your background or interests, Meals on Wheels in Hunterdon has a volunteer opportunity that's just right for you. Most people want to become Volunteer Drivers delivering meals to their homebound neighbors throughout the county. Site Volunteers help part-time staff package meals and assist drivers as they prepare for their routes. Meals on Wheels is a private, not-for-profit service agency. As such, it is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. Board members attend meetings and serve on committees to address staff, fundraising and budgetary issues. Volunteer opportunities abound, technical, social, financial, even 'life experience' contributions are needed. Your involvement – from a single project to an ongoing commitment – can really make a difference! Tickets for the December 7, 2019 Stanton Holly Trail are now on sale. Started in 1962, Holly Trail is the longest running house tour in New Jersey. The day consists of touring five private homes elaborately festooned with hand-made Christmas decorations and abundant fresh greens. The ticket price for the traditional Saturday daytime tour is $50. The ticket includes bus transportation to each home, complimentary tea and cookies in another elaborately decorated home, admission to the craft bazaar, a stop at the whimsical Candy House filled with tasty treats, and a musical respite offered in the sanctuary of the Stanton Reformed Church. There is an optional gourmet lunch available for an additional cost of $15. The tour can also be enjoyed by candlelight on Friday, December 6. This popular option gives patrons the opportunity to see the homes by luxury bus with a dedicated tour guide. Patrons begin with a champagne reception and dinner at the newly re-decorated Stanton Ridge Country Club where they will enjoy live seasonal entertainment and a silent auction. Tickets can be purchased two ways. Patrons can visit www. stantonhollytrail.org and either purchase tickets there or download a ticket form and mail it in. If additional assistance is needed, call the Holly Hotline at 908-713-8111. Tickets for either day must be purchased in advance and are limited. Tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis. The theme of the 2019 tour is Joyful and Triumphant: The Final Tour. 2019 marks the end of Stanton Holly Trail. "Like many all-volunteer organizations, we are struggling to find younger volunteers to carry on the work of Holly Trail," said Suzanne Schwanda, co-chair of Holly Trail. "We still believe deeply in the causes we support and hope to re-invent ourselves in order to continue to support Briteside Adult Day Services and outreach at Stanton Reformed Church." Schwanda continued. The 2018 tour raised over $40,000 which was divided evenly between Briteside Adult Day Services, benefiting older adults and community outreach at Stanton Reformed Church which includes Starfish Food Pantry, Boy Scout Troop 1969, Safe in Hunterdon, Feed the Need, Good News Home for Women, as well as many other organizations. In honor of the final year, a Keepsake Christmas Ornament will be available for sale. Patrons can order the ornaments in advance on the Holly Trail web site to insure getting one or they will be available for purchase the day of the event on a first come, first serve basis. Stanton Holly Trail would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors: Provident Bank and Shop Rite of Hunterdon. "The bright summer had passed away, and gorgeous autumn was flinging its rainbow- tints of beauty on hill and dale." ~ Cornelia L. Tuthill, ' Virginia Dare: Or, the Colony of Roanoke ' 1840
